    S&W 686 Classic Hunter

Does anyone know anything about a Smith and Wesson 686 Classic Hunter .357? I have been offered one in trade and I'm not able to find much info about this model. Thanks for your help.

Major difference is the Classic Hunter came with an unfluted cylinder. Otherwise, it's a six inch barreled 686. They were introduced in 1988, don't know off hand when they were discontinued or how many made.

Assuming it hasn't been abused, it will likely be a great shooter and give decades of service.

I had one and it shot well. A couple of things I remember that were different besides the unfluted cylinder. One was the front sight was all black without an orange insert and the top strap wasn't drilled and tapped for a scope mount. Mark

Hogue combat grip, white outline rear sight, .375" semi-target hammer, .312 smooth combat trigger, unfluted cylinder, 6" barrel, should be marked 686-3, approx. 5000 made (one year only) in 1988. If it's NIB with all matching, it would be worth alittle more. Other wise just a great, solid 357 mag. revolver.

Depends on what you are trading for, but the gun is solid. The 686 is my favorite revolver. Unfluted is a little stronger, but harder to find a holster for.
