    Damage to Crown

Just came back from the range and while cleaning my gun I noticed that there was a ding on the outer rim of the muzzle crown. I'm not really sure if it happened at the range or while cleaning it.

I remember reading somewhere that damage to the crown can severely throw the accuracy of a gun off.

Since the ding is on the outer rim and not the inner where the bullet comes out, will I be fine or should I be looking into purchasing myself another barrel.

It will probably be ok. Take a close up picture so we can see the damage.

As long as the crown itself is not damaged, you are in good shape. If the crown itself is damaged, it is relatively easy to repair and cheaper than a new barrel.

It should be fine but a picture would help.

The inner edge of the barrel where the bullets contacts the lands and grooves is the ony part that matters. The outside edge matters only for appearance.

The accuracy issue is if when the bullet gets to the end of the barrel if gas can escape in one spot before another it will disturb the flight of the bullet. The important thing is that when the bullet exits the exit is square to the bore and undamaged .

Where that is located, no issue. Shoot with confidence.

Don't worry about it. It ain't Pretty no more, but she'll still shoot. Its the inside of the crown you gotta worry about, where the rifling is at !!

A gun with enough damage to the crown to affect accuracy will not be accurate no matter how good the shooter is. There won't be a consistent shot pattern.

                              check this out - http://www.accuratereloading.com/crownr.html

(this isn't sarcasm) How does it shoot? If you were getting good tight groups before, have they changed? If you're getting good shot groups you haven't damaged it. If you're not let someone you know to be a good shot shoot it. If THEY don't get good groups it probably needs to be recrowned.

                              Good luck
                              Jeff
