VZ Operator grips

Just ordered a pair of recons in black grey from vz. Ill post pics when they get here and I get them on my parkarized loaded.

I second that - get the G10's, so you can sand them a bit if need be. I have the Operator II's on this one and I would say they are too aggressive for IWB/CC - they are EXTREMELY aggressive. I think the regular Operators are slightly less aggressive though...

I have operator grips in micarta and g10. I can't tell the difference. Both were a little TOO sharp when brand new, so i did take a fine grit sand paper to them. Just to break the edge so they didn't cut me.

If you are worried about the Operators being to aggressive you may want to look in to the Aliens or the Garter backs. I have a set of Aliens and I don't find them to be to aggressive! As far as G10 or linen G10 are stronger, but even the linen are much stronger than you will even need for a pistol grip. More Gun Porn!


You may also want to check out RAASCO grips as well. They make a nice copy of the Gater backs using the same process to make them. Its a local California shop and they cost between $35-$45, and have a great reputation.

I would agree on the Aliens or Gator Backs as well for concealed carry.

I have a pair of slim Gator Backs that I have yet to install on my CBOB (need to remove the original grip bushings and install the smaller grip bushings which is a real p.i.t.a.) The Gator Backs are pretty smooth through and through yet offer an undulating surface for good grip!

Thanks guys! I'm leaning towards the Aliens. I really like the look of the Operators and think they'll match the utilitarian looks of my black/OD green Springfield but comfort trumps looks in this decision. I think the Aliens would look good too while being more comfortable.

jptopz: Thanks for the Raasco link. They have some great looking wood grips for very reasonable prices and huge selection. I thought about a moment about a set of black diamond wood tactical half checkered grips.

Great grips on a great gun, but again, I would not want these grips rubbing on my bare back/side while carrying concealed.

Sorry if this has been discussed to death but I didn't find anything specific when searching.

I am looking for grips to replace the cheap rubber panels on my Springfield Loaded Champion Lightweight. I think I have settled on VZ Operators. Can anyone give me some advice as to whether I should get them in G10 (supposedly more aggressive/rougher) or in paper Micarta (smoother)?

The gun will be a CCW gun and will no doubt lots of range use too.

Thanks in advance and if anyone has pictures of these grips on a black and OD green 1911 I'd appreciate it.

Thanks. I actually called VZ and was probably the millionth caller bugging them about which grips to get but the lady on the phone was very patient and understanding. She was quite adamant that the Operators would be too rough for concealed carry. I asked about the paper micarta version and whether they are smoother and she told me they no longer make them in paper micarta. I got the impression that they no longer use it for any of their grips. I should have clarified.

She recommended nothing more aggressive than the ETC or Gatorbacks in G10.

I would completely agree, and those are the only two G10 grips I have chosen for my CCW's
