Home Defense debate...

Ok so lets say its you and your wife or gf at home if you have kids they are at a friends or what have you but they arent home, so you and your girl are laying in bed and you hear your door being forced open what do you do? Do you grab a pistol or shotgun and go looking for them? What are your actual defense tactics?

Personaly if i was in that situation I would give my gf my .357 and tell her to hide in the closet and i would grab the 590A1 and have it pointed at the bedroom door ready to rock, I would almost never go looking for the noise because you dont know how many people are breaking in or what they are packing so your best bet would be to stay in a room with only 1 entrance and 1 exit so if they were to try and get in they would only have 1 option and that option would be covered by the 12 gauge and at 7-10ft whatever is in the doorway doesnt stand much of a chance. The only way I would go looking for the intruder is if some1 else in my house would be confronted by them b4 I would, the last thing I would want is for any1 in my house to get hurt before I had the chance to do somthing about it.....anyway thats just my opinion im sure some of you will disagree, feel free to criticize and tell me your techniques.

I would probably do something similar, except I would have my gf call 911, if possible. I would also probably let the bad guys know that I had a 12 gauge covering the bedroom door. Personally, I think you're correct in staying in the bedroom instead of going out looking for the bad guys. I'd try to stay put until the police got there.

Yeah barricade the bedroom door if you can and have enough time, have GF call 911, hide in the closet armed. Cover the door with your shotgun, if they try coming in warn them off and just say you're prepared to defend yourself. I wouldn't tell them what I'm armed with, if they still come through? Well at that point I'd be in definite fear of my life.

What's worse is night time and you have kids asleep in their rooms, you can't just barricade then, you have to secure your family. You should think up a plan for that as well.

if youre asking me what i think youre asking, then i will tell you my approach, and logic behind it.
if i am awakened by the sound of my front door or a window coming apart, me and mama are staying put, in the bedroom. mama hides under/behind some furniture, and i take an ambush position by the door. dead silence. if the bad guys decide to come in the master bedroom, they obviously have blood in their minds, and as such, i will unleash my fury. if the bad guys are just smashing and grabbing for whatever they can get out of the living room, let them. i dont have anything. no entertainment center, no tv, no stereo, nothing. i dont even have carpet in the living room. and if they take off with my microwave and rice cooker, well, they probably needed it more than i did.

but in my case I have 2 elderly people living downstairs. Mom and Grandpa. Honestly, the standing order in the house is for the wife to barricade herself and the kids with her gun. I have no choice but to go downstairs and clear the house with my weapons.
Not an ideal situation, however I'm being honest with myself. There is no way that I could sit upstairs and listen to the rest of my family be tortured or worse. The entire family is in on the plan and training is ongoing.

I'm not very creative so:

1. Retreat with family to the designated safe room.
2. Lock the door.
3. Call 911 on the cell phone
4. Tell the police the location of the safe room from the outside in unambiguous terms. IE something like southeast corner of the house
5. Ask that the police to identify themselves and I will pass them a key ring with the house and the safe room door keys. (I have a solar powered motion activated light outside the window to help tell friend from foe.)
6. Emphasize that the intruders may still be in the house and that I am armed. Request the police knock and announce at the safe room door before unlocking it.
7. Leave the phone off hook until the police have cleared the house.

i agree with her calling 911 but I wouldnt want her behind the bed with me because in my opinion I would be the first line of defense and if I shoot and they start shooting back the last thing I want is for my gf to be next to me when I have bullets flyin my direction. Ill just put her in a space that is safe like a closet or behind other cover, if she was in the closet ill just tell her flat out if you hear my shotgun stop racking and you dont hear my voice telling you its ok to come out, then you make sure when that closet door is opened you just pull that trigger until that BG stops movin, which shouldnt take long if she has my SP101 in .357 mag nothing says die like a .357 mag at point blank range lol.

I would have her call 911 in the bedroom away from the door with her gun. I would then go to the front door as long as it has nit be broken open yet and tell them to leave cause I'm calling the cops. If they are already in the house then I would wait for them.

Cal king Oak sleigh bed with Stearns & Foster pillow-top mattress provides a lot of safety. The closet is another good place for her to stay...that I omitted. She would also be armed.

i would point my AK at the door and the minute they came in i would mow them down.

I have a kid.. no time to barricade or clear the house. Get them right away...may go to jail but i would rather that then some scum bag get to my family.
