    Chamber safety thingy...

What do people think of these for pistols like the glock and XD that require you to pull the trigger during field-strip activities:

    1.point in safe direction
    2. Drop magazine
    3. Rack slide to clear chamber
    4.lock slide back
    5. Insert safety plug into chamber
    6. Proceed with takedown

Would it work like that? Can you take an XD down with one of these in the barrel?

or just clear the chamber like you are supposed to and keep it pointed in a safe direction when you pull the trigger.

Wont work on a Glock, you need the slide fully in battery to dry fire it to take it down. But some of those orange plastic dummy rounds would work. Putting one of those in the chamber before you dry fired it would force you to be sure no live ammo was in there.

I'm pretty sure my Glock 19 came with one of those, not sure if Glock included it or the dealer put it in the box. My Sig 1911 and a Spriggy 1911 came with them also. These are not for dropping the hammer or de-cocking but for showing that the gun is unloaded...it is a safety flag. I am pretty sure that my G19 wont dry fire with one of those in it.

If you are worried about dry firing, the Glock is safe to do that with no accessories needed.

Nah, its just that the thought of pulling the trigger during a field strip gives me a case of the oogaly-boogalies...

Probably be fine once I do it once or twice.

Sounds like these are no-go, since they don't allow it to go into battery. I think the idea of PUTTING round, even a dummy round, in the chamber is a step in the wrong direction during a field strip...

          So yeah, thanks all.

If there's another product that I'm not thinking of or finding, maybe that sticks all the way out the barrel or something with no flag...I'd love to see it.

glocks are made to be dry fired.. so im not worried about the gun.. as far as pulling the trigger when im not somewhere where i should be pulling the trigger (read as: "shooting things").. well.. thats why you make sure the gun is unloaded.. and it does get a lot easyer after you do it a few times..

i like the m&p.. however having to either stick you finger (or a tool) into the gun when the slide is back in order to flip a lever.. that i do not like at all..
Boy the way Glen Miller played, songs that made the hit parade, guys like us we had it made, those were the days, and you know where you were then, girls were girls and men were men, mister we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again, didn't need no welfare states everybody pulled his weight, gee our old Lasalle ran great, those were the days!

            who wants a fishtank?

              Chamber safety thingy...

This won't work in an XD either. It's not really a chamber safety thingy, but a flag to let yourself and others know that the chamber doesn't have a live round when required. I like using these at the matches which require you to keep the action of the gun open when walking around. Less dust, I guess.

Personally, I don't see an issue with this. In fact, I took it out of an XDm (the "m" has added springs/parts to facilitate a non-trigger pull takedown) so that it functions like my other XD's. As long as you clear just like any other weapon, I would never think this to be a problem. Always practice safe handling procedures.

The safety is in the handler, not the weapon.

              Just my thoughts.

+1 on what Quig stated. The most important safety is the one between the ears. If the thought of pulling the trigger as part of the take down is bothering you, then don't buy a gun that requires it. And that mentality would also need to be expanded to not dry firing (with or without snap caps).

Learn the weapon and get your safety habits rock solid. And when in doubt, check it again. Don't depend on weapon safeties, they can fail. I like the loaded indicator on the XD, but I don't depend on it to REALLY tell me the chamber is empty.
