If you're looking for a 1911 from Turner's on sale, also check out the RIA 1911 Tactical. Otherwise, I'd look into Springfield or Kimber for the price range that I'm assuming you're looking at ($700-$800).

I got the Kimber TLE/RL II from Turner's, and considered the Springfield Loaded models, but mainly wanted the Operator. One of the main reasons why I got the Kimber was because the Springfields were either sold out or on back order at the time. Otherwise, I'm very happy with my Kimber as it's been pretty flawless, and I have no regrets with my purchase.

i got a kimber warrior II, operators were on back order when i was looking for a 1911 with a rail. but the kimber has been very good and no complaints, except that it is very tight when brand new. i do miss my rock island armory one though, and will be getting one again soon.

I own both but my kimber is the older series 70 model. I prefer the kimber. The sig is a great gun also but not as tight. If I were to get another 1911 I would look to a dan wesson, colt or even wilson

+1 for kimber.. I have yet to shoot either model but im really digging the way kimber 1911's look.. I think of them as more of safe queens that you bring out occasionally..

I also like the colt model 1911.. pretty clean simple look to it.

I haven't heard a single good thing about kimber these days. I would get a colt or springfield over a kimber anymore. If you're looking at the 1k ballpark, a springfield TRP would fit the bill just dandy. If I had to pick between only those two, it would be Sig.

I just recently bought a Kimber TLE/RL II and so far I like it. I did have a few FTF but I'm still in the break in process. I also noticed more of the FTF with the CMC 10rnd mags and not the factory 7rnd mag. Hmmm.

Interesting, a short while ago someone was trying to decide between a S&W vs Sig 1911, anyway:

I own a Sig GSR bought for just under 800 bucks. It is reliable and accurate. Compared to my last 1911 a Springfield Loaded, the Sig seems to cycle more reliably and seems to be a bit more accurate. It also feels very tight with nice checkering on the front strap and groves on the rear. One problem with the Sig 1911's, they do not have a standard slide profile, the top is flattened. This makes finding a Kydex holster a bit of a challenge as you need to push it in really hard to fit on the ones I tried. I got Sig's kydex holster and it works fine. Have not tried a 1911 leather holster, but suspect those would work.

Would I buy it again? Probably, it really is nicely fit and shoots very well. The trigger pull on mine came in at 5 - 5 1/2 lbs which is not bad. It is very crisp with almost no detectable creep or backlash. Actually that is why I selected it, it had the best trigger of the 1911's I tried at the shop that day, barring some really expensive ones.

If this is your first 1911 (they are addictive), you could do a lot worse than a Rock Island Tactical 45 or Match 45. They are a lot of gun for the money and you can work on it yourself it you want to customize it.

My RIA Tactical shoots very well, it's not quite as good as a Colt 1911 National Match, but it's no slouch either.

Have a Colt, and used to have a SIG.

The SIG shot great, but would not reliably feed a full mag of Corbon HPs with either mag. I
had to down stack to 6 rounds.

Drink the Kool-Aid, buy a Colt..........and never look back.
