first 1911 purchase, updated question.

so turners had a sale a week ago for a couple sig and kimber 1911's. I dont know a lot about 1911's other than I want one and i've waited long enough to add one to my collection. I dont remember the models but they were under $1000 for both brands, I am thinking to go with kimber because they're known for their 1911's but I own sigs and I have yet to have a problem so what should I do?

it sounds like springfield takes care of their customers really well, but how is the quality though? And I am aware there are better brands than sig and kimber i only mentioned them because they were on sale. How does springfield and smith and wesson compare?

I never did see too much information on the Sig GSR 1911's, not a whole lot of talk about them good or bad.

But I did decide to make my first 1911 purchase a Kimber Gold Match, which I love. Some people will argue about Kimber's MIM etc and such and so on... but personally, I haven't had a single issue with mine. My particular model was very tight from the get go and took about 500-1000 rounds to break it in. I recently started handloads and it's been 100%.

I have a Kimber Custom II. Had a ton of problems with it. Cleared it up with Jim Hoag's reliability package. I know I shouldn't need a reliability package to get my gun working but I still love my Kimber. Not sure if I would buy another Kimber though (would consider Springfield Armory, etc..).

I have shot and used a kimber custom II, not extensively but enough. I loved it, a beautiful weapon. Can't speak on behalf of sig 1911, although have shot a .40 and .45 sig and loved them as well. Seems like a win win to me.

I would get the Kimber, I cannot stand the way the slide looks on the Sig. It doesn't looks like a real 1911.

Don't own Sig; but I do love my Kimber TLE. Beautiful, classy and VERY reliable. Would buy another if wife agrees.

My buddy has a new Colt 1911, it's a pleasure to shoot. My other friend is looking into a Kimber, but I've heard a few knocks against Kimbers... I think he's dead-set on one though.

If it were me, I'd go for the old school looks, a lot of positive customer reviews, and long-term track records of reliability and customer service - ie: don't narrow it to a SIG or a Kimber, look at all your options.

Ditto, especially with better customer service. Springfield specifically will give you a lifetime warranty that follows the gun (so even buying used would be good)


If this is worth anything to you.. on the Sig forum, a lot of them have 1911s.. but not a whole lot of the members have Sig 1911s.

for around 1k i'd get a Springfield MC Operator if u can find one, otherwise if you dont mind a 4" the Kimber CDP Pro II is excellent as well. I had so so experiances with the TLE series but maybe it was bad luck twice..

I don't own Sig or Kimber 1911 cuz I don't like the way it look. Buy Colt or Springfield.
