    Modern 1911's

After surfing the net for days I have come to a decision. I want a modernized version of JMB's 1911. These two have external extractors and other modifications. There also under $800. Some might point out the SA Loaded but I dont like the front serrations on the slide. That being said here are the two I have chosen. Please keep the discussion between these two pistols only.

    SW1911

Why do you desire an external extractor?

As a heads up, I don't think you're going to get as much feedback on these particular types of 1911's.

External extractors seem to be more reliable and just about every modern pistol has them. You dont see alot of internal extractors on new pistols. Even JMB ditched them.

No brainer for me. S&W all the way.

I don't know how you could go wrong with either.

              SW1911 without a doubt.

External extractors can be a bit finicky in 1911s, but they're very reliable if done right, like on the S&W. Great customer service and a lifetime warranty doesn't hurt either.

Internals are typically more reliable. It's the original design, and many new pistols still use them. IE: Kimber, Wilson, Springfield, Rock Island, Nighthawk just to name a few.

Neither. Get one with an internal extractor.

The Sig P220 doesn't have an internal extractor?

The switch from internal extractors to external extractors on 1911s caused nothing but headaches. They are overall less reliable than internal extractors. I'd recommend getting a 1911 with an internal extractor.

You may have a misconception about external extractor = modernized gun.

All the high end 1911s have internal extractors because they work the best.

With that said, the SW because the Sig slides are fugly.

+1 to these posts...... Only a few 1911 manufacturers have external extractors (I can only think of S&W and Sig right now) but there are tons of manufacturers with internal extractors, including all the high-end, semi-customs, and fully customized 1911's (colt, springfield, wilson combat, dan wesson, nighthawks, ed brown, guncrafter).

I would stay away from external ones...........internal ones are far more reliable......

that was the first thing i thought about about.

also, even kimber went from external to internal extractors.
