    1911...

So as of now I am still searching for my perfect handgun.

And as you may have guessed by the title, right now I am looking at 1911's.

    Specifically commander sized 1911's.

My question is, here in the small town of Torrance, CA, is there anywhere where I can handle one and maybe learn more about it?

The only thing that I am abit apprehensive about is the fact that the field stripping of this gun seems hell alot more complicated then let say...glocks.

Also I'm not to sure if I'll like the grip angle of the 1911 as well.

So is there any gun store or range nearby that carries 1911's that I can possibly handle?

And just fyi, Torrance is about 20 miles southwest of Los Angeles and 10 miles south from LAX.

    Thanks guys!

Google it. Seriously. There are tons of places around Torrance and L.A. They may or may not have the gun you want, but just call ahead. As for the take down, yeah 1911s are more complicated than Glocks to field strip, but they still aren't hard to do. 1911s were made to be handled by Grunts. Need I say more? Glocks are about as simple as you will find, but 1911s are not bad at all.
What do you mean my birth certificate expired?

I strongly suggest you shoot one before you decide to buy one. Handling it is not the same as shooting it. You'll be amaze at the number of people who have sold me their pistols because "it was not right for them." A commander sized 1911 shoots way different than a full size government (for me anyhow).

They're pretty easy to break down...Really easy. A little more effort is required with super high-end as they will be more tightly fit, but even then it's not hard at all.

If you're going for a 1911 Commander, make sure it's true Commander size, meaning 4.25" and not 4".

Have fun shopping for a 1911, it's a fun path to addiction.

I agree. The only way to pick out the "gun for you", is to go rent and shoot a lot of them.

All of the new shooters I've taken to the range have really enjoyed shooting a 1911, more so than any other type of handgun. No one has complained about the grip angle.

Commanders are awesome - and addicting.

Just go to the Redondo Beach Turner's on Hawthorne, I was in there this week, they have plenty of 1911 style pistols for you to fondle.

doesn't SharpShooter have some 1911s for rent? shooting one will tell you way more than fondling them at gun stores. that being said, very few fail to fall in love with 1911s on the first shot...

Well try LAX Range, they have quite a large selection of guns to shoot as well as commander sized 1911's.

LAX Ammunition offers a professional LA gun range and fully stocked ammo shop in Los Angeles. Train safely and shop quality ammunition.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I didn't know there were so many near here, especially the Turner's. I pass by that road couple times and I don't think I ever saw it but then again its not a normal intersection.

                        Thanks again!

Socal Sharpshooters is just off of Western north of Torrance Bl. They may not have a commander to shoot but at least had one to fondle.

Just over at Ammo Bros in Cerritos on Wednesday to do a PPT with another Calgunner. They've got quite a few 1911's over there: Rock Island, Kimber, and two other brands that I do not remember. They just moved to another spot in the same plaza a few months ago and now it's a pretty big store with lots of selections. It's not that far from Torrance. Go check it out.
