    (FIXED)

Picked up my P95 after 10 days the other day and went to the range to try it out. After 200 rounds of factory blazer brass i had about a 15% failure rate. Could not go through a single full magazine without a FTF FTE and double feeds. Problem was mainly FTF. About 5 FTE and 2 double feeds.

Another problem is that when the magazine is empty the slide does not stay locked back. even after i rack it when its empty.

any ideas what the problem could be? i've narrowed it down to its a lemon, needs to be broken in still, limpwristing (but this doesnt explain the slide not locking)

any help? suggestions? ideas? solutions? thanks.my glock 23 has been flawless for me for a couple thousand rounds and this issue with my new gun is irritating the crap outta me. thanks.

Underpowered ammo, limpwristing, dirty gun, poor quality ammo. Could be a combination of any of the above.

The big end of the recoil spring goes forward.

ill have to try some different ammo for sure. 115gr is underpowered for this gun?? i'd hope not cuz seems like all the cheap stuff at walmart is 115gr. I've cleaned the gun thoroughly before taking it the range so i dont thinik thats the problem. limpwristing? what am i doing wrong??? i've held it tight, locked up my wrists used both hands and still had this problem. for a few mags i didnt even aim just focused on locking up my wrists so unless im doing something very wrong im thinking there might be some other issues like this before with the p95?

Trying a different brand of ammo would be a good start since you already eliminated limp wristing. The break in period may also contribute.

See if there is an employee of the range who would be willing to shoot it to eliminate any issues on your end.

You may have a bad magazine, or set of magazines. When I have had FTFs, failure to slide lock, and double feeds, it has been the magazine's fault 9 times out of 10. It's really hard to find reliable magazines for some guns. This might be one. Besides, trying a new magazine is probably the cheapest way to go. Keep shooting until you get to about 500 or 600 rounds in case it needs to be further broken in. If you still have problems contact Ruger. Their customer service is good and they will help you.

This plus try a quality brand of new ammo, at least Brass cases. Avoid reloads until you know the gun is reliable.
              Good luck.

thanks everyone. i will try different ammo next time. i've found others have had this same issue on ruger forums. seems like something to do with the extractor arm. if i aquired the gun in a trade will ruger still cover this? or am i going to have to cough up some more $$$?

As long as the gun has not been modified Ruger will fix it. Give them a call explain whats going on and they might even send you a shipper # for free pick up so it won't cost you anything. Remember always talk nice to the C/S rep. it makes things go allot smoother.

Ruger will treat as well as sending you naked ladies to your house with a new P95 fresh from the factory. Seriously, Ruger will cover you but this is puzzling nevertheless..

OKAY FIRST OFF DID YOU CLEAN THE GUN RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX? IF NOT YOU NEED TO TAKE SOME TIME AND THOUROGHLY CLEAN THE DAYLIGHTS OUT OF IT AND LUBE IT UP...MY P95 LOVES WNCHESTER WHITE BOX AND FEDERALS FMJ'S. THE PMC AND RWS AMMO IS VERY DIRTY AND WILL START TO FTF/FTE AFTER 150 OR MORE ROUNDS AT A TIME BECUASE ITS SO FILTHY. NOT SURE OF BLAZER BRASS AMMO BECUASE IVE NEVER SHOT IT. RUGER WILL DEFINATLY FIX IT IF THERE IS A PROBLEM. ALSO THIS GUN IS VERY SENSITIVE TO LIMPWRISTING. OVERALL ITS A GOOD GUN AND ITS BUILT LIKE A TANK.

My P95 was really tightly put together out of the box. I had a few times where it failed to lock back on the last round. This was with Rem UMC. These guns need a few 100 rounds to break in. The bullet weight doesn't always indicate if the cartridge is "hot" or not. Switched to Win. Now my P95 is great, no further problems. A friends P95 had similar problems at first. He was using reloads. Shot a few boxes of good factory ammo and now his is fine too.
As said before, clean and lube, use some good factory ammo, shoot a few boxes of it and then see if the gun doesn't work right. Ruger will take care of you if theres still a problem but I'll bet it works itself out.
These are really great low cost guns. oh yeah, its built like a tank! (the new "two weeks!" cliche phrase when describing a P-series Ruger)

Could be magazines, one of my factory mags sometimes does not hold open. Get a mec-gar for the ruger, they are cheaper than factory and work really well. Also 115g is fine for the ruger, its basically all i shoot. I honestly doubt that it is the ammo, these guns have an "AK like" reputation as far as eating anything you feed it. However if the ammo is REALLY dirty that could be a factor. So new mag + different ammo with some further breaking in will give you a better idea. Ruger will get you fixed up if nothing else, then you will grow to love that thing!

thanks for the input peoples. i guess i will be tearing it down and give it another thorough cleaning. going to burro canyon on sunday and will be putting another 800 rounds though her so i should know by then if i need to be sending it to ruger or not. sounds like they have some excellent CS so im not too concerned at all about this issue anymore. thanks for keeping my hopes up! haha.
