Which 1911?

I had the same dilema 3 weeks ago when choosing my first 1911. In the end, I went with Springfield. In dong my research, Kimbers just seemed to have more problems overall. Not to say that Springfield does not have them, but the clincher as that Springifeld has a lifetime warranty whereas Kimber did not. To be fair though, they were instances where Kimber still took care of the pistol even though the warrnty was over, but there were also numerous complaints about how bad the customer service was after the fact. -
i think you can't go wrong with either one. i have a springfield gi and a kimber warrior. both are good guns. both are over 500 rds without any problems when using good magazines. i think you get more gun with the springfield though.(\__/)

After doing my research and before I purchased my 911, I went to the local indoor range and rented different 911s. Colt, Springfield, ect...
After several sessions, I purchased a Kimber TLE II, runs like a clock
I love itComment

10-4, Kimbers weak link is their mags - Already purchased Wilson magsComment

Both are good 1911's.. I have had my Kimber for 6+ years now. Never had a problem with it.Comment

I just picked up a kimber custom 2 the other day. Took it out and had 2 FTF's. Was using 3 different mags to see what ones it liked. Failed to feed on the last round of two clips. One was a McCormick mag and I dunno what the other one was. Factory mag worked just fine. I'm gunna go buy some Wilson mags. Other than that little error I looooove my kimber. Shoots straight and true. Put in a nice group at 20 yds. And it was my first time out shooting it" You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something in your life. If pretty is the priority then Kimber hands down. However I much prefer the Springfield Armory Loaded. Kimber uses an easily damaged and in my opinion delicate version of the Swartz firing pin safety system. There is nothing wrong with a Swartz system when done right but I don't care for Kimber's - and if it breaks it you're screwed until you get replacement parts. Kimber even exempts damage to their Swartz system from warranty coverage. That takes us to my second problem with Kimber - the short 1 year warranty. If a company doesn't have enough confidence in their products (and Swartz safety) to back it with a no-nonsense lifetime warranty then why would I want to bet my life on it? I'm not saying don't buy Kimbers. Just make you decision fully informed. I own Kimbers but I can fix my own and they are never my first choice.
In contrast Springfield Armory's Loaded sometimes have a bit cruder finish and use a lighter firing pin/heavier trigger in place of the Swartz system. But Springfield backs their products with great customer service and a lifetime WarrantyLast edited by sholling; 09-19-2010, 9:05 AM."Government is the great fiction, through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else." --FREDERIC BASTIAT--

You can't go wrong with a Kimber or Springfeild!
I have had a Kimber Compact for 11 years now and still love it. It has never failed me not once. I have friends who have Springfeilds and they are just a great! Recently I picked up a Sig GSR full size for a smoking $500 bucks that only had 300 rounds put through it. I only have a 100 more down the Sig, but I love it.
Like others have said the biggest problem with any 1911 are the mags. You have to run good quality mags like Cobra tripp, or Wilson combat.
You will have to shell out another $30-$40 per mag, but they are worth the money. another route you can take is to buy there rebuld kits and put them in your old mag shell. the rebuild kits run about $10 bucks.
I own a HK USP, Glock 31, Sig P226, Colt Trooper, Beretta 96, Kimber Compact, and Sig GSR. I always reach for my 1911s first! There is something great about the 1911s.Comment

I too went and rented an bunch of 1911's before I bought mine. I shot Kimber, Springfield, Colt and few others. They were all pretty nice, but I chose Dan Wesson PM-7...
