    Sig mosquito reliable?

I've been looking for a .22 handgun to take to the range with me so I've got something cheap to shoot. I've been looking for a Ruger or Browning .22 but came across a Mosquito for 200 bucks. I would ideally shoot the bulk Federal .22 you can get at Walmart but want to make sure the gun will be fairly reliable.

    Thoughts?

I'd advise against Mosquito. It had so much problem that I've seen plenty of dislikes. For SIG pistols, a .22 conversion kit is better deal.

It is worth $200, but you can not shoot cheap bulk ammo through them. So many people hate this little gun. I have one and keep it clean, lubed and use CCI mini mags and it shoots great. The one big complaint I have is that the trigger sucks! I wish there was a fix for the trigger.

I have one and found that the bulk ammo will not work. The CCI's work great for me.

I got one for my girl a few months ago and I like it (at times). It def. needs to be kept clean or even the CCI's have problems. I was able to go thru about 350 Federal .22's one day with only 1 FTF, then the next day (even after cleaning) every mag out of the 375 that I shot of Federal would have one or two FTE or FTF????? I have since filed down the barrel lip and feed ramp and polished, and that has made a huge improvement. Was able to go thru 750 Federal rounds in one day with the occasional FTF (maybe 10-15 total) which isnt bad at all.......for this gun lol, but u shouldnt have to do all this to a brand new gun IMO! We like it b/c it feels like a full size gun and fits her hand much better than my other pistols.

$200 is not bad at all price wise (assuming its new). I have shot the Ruger and Buckmark and they are leaps and bounds better than the Sig in terms of accuracy, dependabilty, etc but they also have an entirely different look and feel to them. I am still going to get a Buckmark anyway (cant have enough .22's ) but overall I am def. not dissapointed or upset with my purchase of the mosquito!

BTW, stripping the gun and cleaning is a Very easy process with this gun!

I'm a big Sig guy and am ashamed to say the Mosquito is a piece of junk. It doesnt deserve the Sig label.

Get yourself the most expensive Browning Buckmark your can afford. They are fine guns.

The Mosquito is not made by Sig. It's made by GSG.

The quality is hit and miss. I have a friend who bought one and promptly got rid of it.

I questioned this myself recently, I ended up getting a mark III hunter instead.
Shot it only once but it was pretty great

Had some trouble taking it apart and putting back together though when I got home, thank goodness for youtube

After 1k rounds of CCI mini-mags it sucked less. Nuff said, get the Mark III.

$200 isn't a bad price. If it is your fifth .22 pistol, it is a fun addition to your collection. If it is your first (or second) .22 pistol, don't bother.

But know that you MUST budget for shooting only CCI Mini-mags if your heart is set on getting it. I've tried all kinds of brands of ammo and NOTHING has been even 80-85% reliable in extraction and ejection.

As for the trigger, there is a write up on how to make it "suck less". It is kinda involved in getting to the heart of the pistol, but definitely worth it if you plan to not hate it.

Everyone's comments here are true. Most finicky .22 pistol I own.

Thanks for the input guys. This will be my second handgun so I don't want to buy crap. I'll hold out for a Mark III or Buckmark.

                            Totally agree with jptopz here.

You're better off with a Browning, Ruger or a Beretta U22 Neos.
Just go to a gun store and hold that U22......Once you have it in your hand, you'll know why I was going to buy a browning or a ruger but ended up buying an U22.

And on the U22 the "trigger job" is a flat head screw driver away. That was the easiest .22 pistol I've done. And the one that I got the closest to my desired pull without going bonkers from complicated assembly/dis-assembly or doing to much damage in one attempt. Tried the U22 trigger as I went, dis & assembled the thing ~25 times. No prob as it's just so simple.

Anyways, back to the Sig's trigger fix!
