Purchasing a Handgun Frame from a Private Party

I have a question for the FFL familiar.

I'm going to purchase a Beretta M9 Commercial (on roster) from a private seller in Georgia, but this is only the complete frame, no slide.

Someone mentioned to me that if you buy it without the upper, that it is no longer a roster pistol. Is this true, and am I screwed? Please let me know (I already paid the guy)!!

I have never heard anyone say that before. It doesn't make sense to me since the frame has the serial number and is considered the "firearm". Has your local FFL already accepted it for delivery?

I sent an email to my main-man FFL, so I'll see what he says. The seller has not shipped it yet. I can see if it was an off roster, but we'll see.

Worst comes to worst, I have an entire Upper and barrel, and I'll ship it to the guy to install before he sends it to my FFL

I'm going to really be surprised if this is a problem for you. I have never seen any law or anything associated with the roster that would suggest that it becomes off roster if it doesn't have the slide attached. Ima just call it bull right now.

I've purchased a couple of 1911 frames. If they were complete guns, they would not be on the roster (Caspian and Remsport). Didn't have any probems at all with a FTF transfer. Don't know what's going to happen with your M9.

It is on the roster, it will just be shipped without the slide/barrel.

That does strike me as a bit of a wild question. Never heard of someone trying to transfer an ON-list frame.

yup, this. That is why some of the custom 1911 vendors offer 1 or 2 rostered 1911 models. You buy that model and then after DROS, you send it back to the manufacturer to have remade the way you want it. But it is initially bought as a complete firearm. They don't just sell your the frame for one of the rostered models and then have you send it back to have parts installed onto it.
