Come on now... I said it's weird, I didn't say it's ugly! Now it's time for me to pick up a set of tritium night sights for it... SIG forget to put it on (my original P228 has factory installed night sights) and I am tired of sending this gun back to SIG again. If I do, that would be the fourth time I sent my gun back!

          That is COOL!

So by mixing and matching parts, does that devalue the gun at all?

What does he call it since its not a P228 anymore, right?

              Slight Hijack...

I am thinking of getting a P220 Carry thanks to pics of some gun pr0n I saw here...

With all these talks of different frames but caliber being interchangeable, should I be doing some more research?

And is a CPO a good deal or would it be better if I buy new? I know Ade's has a few CPO's and I planned to buy from him.

Both of the 220 CPO's I've bought look new. It's always best to be able to handle and inspect the gun before you buy it. If Ade doesn't have what you want in stock (he has several 220's), some of the dealers on the Sigforum list excellent pictures of their CPO's. I personally bought mine from Clubster & JC Weaponry and had them shipped to Ade. Both of these dealers sell on the Sigforum and have Ade's FFL on file.

Took the gun to the range after work yesterday. Fired about couple hundred rounds. Result: disappointed. Recoil is mild, but grouping is pretty wild. After I got home and take a closer look, the problem is the barrel. It seems when SIG piece meal this gun together, they pick up a barrel from the crap pile. Based on the wear level of the rifling, the barrel must have seen more then 10K rounds alreay; but that's not the worst. This barrel also used to have serial number, and they grind it off. The result is very obvious: left side of the chamber wall is thinner then the right side. The part of the barrel that's in contact with top-rear end of the ejection port (hood?) also can see machining marks, so it's match to the slide is shoddy to say at least. Crown was not finished, and I can see slight pitting inside the rifling as well. Upon first look it's not obvious because they refinish the barrel. I am ordering a new barrel to replace this one, and will sent this barrel with a nasty letter back to SIG.

                    Wow! That's a definite FrankenSIG!

                    Slide from P226 NAVY
                    Frame form P226 ST
                    Grips from P226 Elite
Barrel from an old school all-German SIG (has serial number)

Do give us an update on the saga of your SIG. I like reading horror stories from SIGARMS CS.

Don't screw around with another Sig factory barrel, just buy this:

                        pnkssbtz:

Since the P228 was deem unrepairable, SIG sent me a replacement gun. The replacement can be anything as long as I agreed to it (I am certainly okay if they are sending me a X5 for replacement ). This replacement gun has no affiliation with the original P228 so the value of this replacement gun will determine by what it is (a P226) and it's condition (okay, except a messed up barrel) and configuration (weird enough to me).

                        aca72:

I can't really tell if it used to have S/N on the barrel. I made that assumption based on the fact that:

                        1. There are machining marks on the left side of the barrel.
                        2. Only very little of the original SIG SAUER marking left on the left side of barrel after SIG ARMS did their hack job.
                        3. Entire barrel was refinished, so you can't tell just by pulling the slide open.

Most of the new SIG does not have serial number stamped on the barrel anymore. The P228 I return back to SIG did not have serial number stamp on the barrel. My assumption is based on: if it's one of the no serial number barrel, then it didn't make any sense for SIG to grind off a few thousandth on one side of barrel wall. IMO SIG could've easily put a decent barrel and they didn't. Their service just drop from "acceptable" to rock bottom in my book.

I tried the Bar-STO barrel before for my now retired P228. Frankly I was not impressed. It's pretty much drop in for my P228 and fit was kind of loose, Shoots factory new ammo okay but sucks with anything else. I could shoot better group with my 30K factory barrel then using the semi drop-in Bar-STO barrel so that pretty much stopped me from wanting to try again. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Oh, for everyone's reference: SIG's barrel didn't hold up too well for range guns. I've seen 2 of the 9mm barrel's chamber widen up to a point where it's FTE and FTE all the time and the ejected casing bulged pretty bad in the range I worked at. Now the range P220 ST is starting to do the same thing..

It's the Sig P226 in 40S&W reversed two tone.
