It's a high performance round as you noted: .357 Magnum clout in a semi-auto beating .45, .40. and 9mm handily. That's why the Secret Service, where every shot counts down to the second, uses it.
However, it is expensive:
1) the high pressures erode barrels faster and deform frames faster (best to use Sig alloy frames not Glock plastic with this wallop)
2) the ammo is expensive and it is very complex to reload--and mistakes can be catastrophic.
The government doesn't care about costs--but you might.
All that said I have .357 Sig barrels for my Sig P229 and P239 and I love that round--it's what I load up on for HD. But I have .40 and 9mm barrels as well and shoot those most of the time.
I like the .357 Sig but it's too expensive to shoot a lot but I think the .45 is am anachronism given one has 9mm, .40 and .357 Sig--why bother with .45 at near the price of .357 Sig without the clout? You want cheap? Go 9mm or .40. You want power, skip .45 and go with .357 Sig. Just one opinion and there are so many to yet come.
