.357 Sig not common?

Hey guys, I was wondering why the 357 sig isn't very popular? It seems like everybody has a 9, 40, or 45. I have shot all of them, but when I was deciding what to purchase, I read a couple of ballistics charts. On average, the 357 sig has very similar ballistics to a 357 mag, and the velocity and energy of the 357 sig is higher than the 9, 40, and most 45 loads. I'm just curious as to why this round is often overlooked?

Some people just refuse to try new things. But as far as common caliber goes, .357sig is pretty common. I mean, we can find it in wal mart. What else can we ask for?

this round is Cha-CHING! I shoot it once in a while but it's on my sig p229 so I switch barrels between 40SW, 357sig, and 9mm. It's kinda gimmicky in my opinion but I keep my sig loaded with it because those are usually the only rounds laying around the house that I feel bad shooting due to cost. When arguing between 9mm, 357 sig, 40sw, and 45 acp it's pretty much decided that shot placement is more important than the difference in terminal ballistics and people would probably rather spend their money practicing with ammo that is more affordable. At least that's my opinion.

Too much recoil, imho. I think it recoils more than .45 ACP.

But that's comparing apples to oranges, the 45 ACP I fire is a RIA 1911 and the 357 Sig was some Glock. Though the muzzle blast was way more noticeable with the 357 Sig.

If you can reload .357 Sig can be made out of .40 S&W brass and normal 9mm bullets. Compared to a new box of shells reloading cuts the price in half.

I have had 2 different guns that had both .357sig barrels and .40 barrels: a Glock 33 and Sig P229. To date, I have never fired a single round of .357sig. I still wonder what it is like. The reason: costs too much.

Not advisable. You end up with a case that is .015" - .020" too short by SAAMI spec.

I like the .357 in my 229. I would really like to have one in a 1911 5" dovernment model or a para double stack. just my opinion.

Not too many years ago 357sig was just a little more than 40s&w. Just seems like the price for 357sig has risen higher than other rounds. I love the way it fires.

It's a snappy recoiling round in most formats, price for ammo is comparatively high. It's a got a good pedigree on paper, just never caught on big time.

I have a Sig Pro in .357Sig and I'm not a big fan. The pistol is too light for the caliber so the recoil is high compared to my S&W 686 and 1911's in .45ACP. The really big drawback is the cost- even more than shooting .45 which is a bit on the expensive side itself.

I have a Sig P229 in 357 sig beauty is i can just swap out the barrel for a 40SW and im good to go. Weight isnt a problem its pretty heavy.

They ALWAYS have it at my local Walmart. I've heard that it's just as loud as the .357 magnum which is why I PERSONALLY stay away from it. I always wear ear protection but I like having firearms I could possibly shoot without ear protection.

I also like having caliber that I could easily find in the event that SHTF.

I have a Glock 31 barrel for my Glock 22. The .357 recoil is brisker than .40, but not more intense overall. The muzzle flash is easily discernible, especially in low light. .357 seems to shoot a little flatter than .40. It does get a little more attention at the range also. It's a fun round to shoot.
