The RIA 1911s are great entry level 1911s.
IMO... the RIA 1911 Tactical is the best 1911 you can get for under $800. However, don't plan on customizing it much if you get it.

If you want to customize, go with a Springfield Armory 1911. They are easier to customize than the (Armscor) RIA 1911s.

          IMO, for duty use...
... check out the Les Baer SRP.
... check out a Dan Wesson Valor and Pointman 7.
... check out Springfield Armory TRP and Loaded MC Operator.
... check out the Kimber Tactical Custom series.

Getting close to retirement. Not to be carried as a primary weapon. More for use as a "desk gun". Plus, I just want one to mess with and I've got other things to spend $1500-2K on.

Hey, thanks to all who offered their advice. I've been looking at a couple really nice SA GIs.
There a lot of different variations, but I really like the basic one with the <US> on the nice wood grips. Some excellent prices out there, too. SA's own site lists them for around $650, so I'm thinking that's pretty high since it's MSRP. I've got a call in to my local FFL to see what he can get me one for.

Thanks, that's an amazing price, especially for Gunbroker! I've just discovered the Para USA 1911's, too. Some of them look mighty fine!
