    Taurus 1911?

I'm considering a 1911, been wanting one for a long time. Problem is, I don't have Colt, Browning, S&W, etc. kind of cash. Taurus has some pretty decent looking units for sale in my price range, but I know next to nothing about them. Any advice or recommendations/non-recommendations for this weapon?
Bottom line, what I want is the basic, full-sized standard 1911 .45. Nothing fancy, but with the option to "dress it up" later if I choose.
    Thanks!

I don't think it is on our list,

I heard great things about them.

If you want inexpensive look at rock island armory which are on the roster. I bought a tactical and it was reliable out of the box. Mark

Buy a Springfield GI instead. Much more subtle (non-horrific) roll-mark, forged frame, and more room to grow.

Taurus has been having some quality control issues lately in their wheel guns not sure about clone 1911.

Taurus 1911s are not on the approved list.

            Get a RIA 1911 instead.

The (Armscor) RIA 1911s are better in quality and reliability than the Taurus 1911s.

I'm buying it for work, so being on/off the list doesn't matter.
Are Rock Island and Springfield in a similar price range?

replace the "1" with an "i". I didn't want the censors to block out my colloquialism.

I'll take that as a good, then. Because I like t1ts!

+1 on all of that. The roll mark on the RIA is what gave me pause even at the price. You can build a SA GI into a top-of-the-line Professional model if you wanted to ($$). The RIA will never grow out of its cast frame.

                          Errr, what's a "roll mark"?
