I havent noticed that. What I have noticed is that the majority of civilians is overweight, regardless of gun enthusiasm.

Was just looking at the RIA Gov 1911. It appears that the contour of the hammer is shaped a bit diffefent, that may contribute. My 1911 Gov Springfield is out of the box stock with the exception of a King Barrel and Bushing.....Never been bit....

        Because they don't make a 46!

i have a springfield gi and i have been a victim of hammer bite. tried bobbing just the hammer a little and still get redness on the web of my hand. i've smoothed the edges on the grip safety that makes contact on my hand. it feels a lot better but i have yet to try it out.

i used a fine small round file

I think you'll either need to bob the hammer or go with a new grip safety, which will probably require a new hammer - unless you want to change the way you hold the pistol.

            Good luck.

Bullseye shooters (for the most part) want as high of a grip as possible and you can't install a beaver tail or bobbed hammer. So hammer bite is a way of life for most of us one time or another. I usually put a heavy duty bandaid or athletic tape in the web of my hand everyday I'm shooting a match.

-Duct tape is like The Force. It has a dark side. It has a light side.
Used correctly, it holds the universe together. Used
incorrectly, it sticks your cat to the wall. -

I personally like a beaver tail on my 1911.
I do have a RIA without and I solved the hammer bite by using a batting glove on my trigger hand. It's thin enough that it doesn't affect my grip and it keeps the web of my hand out of the way.
