    High end 1911 help

    Hey guys,

i'm a noob when it comes to 1911's but i'd like to just get things over with and get a good one right off the bat.
heard great things about both les baer and springfield.
couple choices i've been thinking about are springfield professional and les baer srp. are these two pretty comparable? pro's and cons? any other suggestions?
any help from you guys would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks!

I think people will suggest Wilson and Nighthawk too at that price range.

*edit* forgot Ed Brown as the poster below me pointed out

Ed Brown, too. In fact, Ed Brown gets my vote for a higher-end 1911.

You will be more then fine with any of the ones mentioned.

If I were looking for a hi-end 1911. Brown and Wilson would be my first two choices.

Of those that are certified for California sale, I would recommend the Kobra Carry for a Commander size, and the Special Forces for a full size.

OP might want to specify a budget. Some of these models will differ by thousands of dollars.

I just purchased the Springfield TRP Stainless. I could not be happier with this gun. Accurate out of the box, even for me. The people at Springfiel are the best to deal with.

OP, you may want to look at some of the work done by Jardine and Greg Derr also -- if money is no object.

although not a high end like the les baer or wilson combat.... you can never go wrong with a DAN WESSON a mid-level firearm with a very high reliability and accuracy...

I'll take my mid-level CBOB over my "high-level" Ed Brown Kobra Carry anytime.

Of what you mentioned, I'd go with the Springfield Pro. I'm a Colt guy, but I've fired that Springer as well as Les Baer, Ed Brown, Wilson and Nighthawk pistols. The Springer shot as well as the others, felt as good or better than the others, and in my opinion it is missing nothing.

Good luck getting one, though. Not many around, and the wait for a new one is lengthy.

If it were me, I'd look for an older Colt (pre 80 Series) and send it to one of the guys here: www.louderthanwords.us.

You may spend a little more than the out of the box high end 1911, but you can have it exactly how you want it (although the wait may feel like torture - ask me how I know).

                            Good luck.

you might wanna read this 1st about "high end 1911 (kobra carry)".
I have many "semi custom" 1911s including my Kobra Carry and Nighthawk. After calling Ed Brown with the issue of my brand new $2,500 Kobra Carry throwing casings at my head, I decided I will call my friend Larry at Nighthawk. The attitude that Ed Brown's customer service possesses was basically that they dont want to help. The individual I talked to at Ed Brown said this: "Commanders are more erratic and the Kobra Carry that I personally own does the same thing. I know its annoying but its
