    Star Firestar .45acp

Someone is selling me one LNIB for $400. Is that a decent price for it? Reliability? Accuracy? Thanks for the feedback in advance

That is not a smoking deal, but at the current prices it is not too bad either. I have owned a couple of the 40 cal Firestars and they have been great guns, my Dad and one of my buddies also own the 40 cal version. They are pretty darn robust little guns, all steel top to bottom. They have not been imported into the states for well over 10 years so parts could be a little problematic but otherwise it should be a good little pistol. Accuracy has always been more than acceptable but nothing earth shattering. I doubt you could even find night sites for one but that is the only problem I had with my first one. I had some Trijicons put in it and the front dovetailed sight was never right, it always slid around. I let them do it twice and both times it was not right, so I would pass on putting night sights in one if the opportunity ever came up otherwise I would clean it and shoot the snot out of it.

Parts are tough to find but there is a guy out of Spain that has some for sale. The one I had was very accurate and reliable but with the parts availability $400 seems high. Mine broke a slidestop which I was able to replace. Mark

        Yes! Mine broke, too!
Had it replaced and sold the Star years ago. If I had it to do over, I would have hung on to it. It was very reliable with factory ammo but had feeding problems with SWC loads. It probably just needed some tuning.

Since parts are hard to find, am i better off getting a Glock 20 for roughly the same price?

Yeah, I would say so but that is really an apples to oranges comparison. Full house 10mm double stacked plastic pistol compared to a .45 all steel single stack. If I had no other guns and my choice was between those two I might go with the .45 because of ammo availability, but if you shoot the snot out of it you may find yourself needing parts for it and being s.o.l. The full bore 10mm is not something I would really want to shoot the snot out of due to ammo costs and recoil. $400.00 for the Glock 20 I think is a little better price than the same money for the Firestar.

Heh, there is no comparison in quality between the Glock and the Star. Buy the Glock instead.

If I had no other guns I would get the Glock. If I had others, I would get the Firestar in a minute. In fact, I already own an M45. If you don't want it, can you PM me a link for the listing as I may want to buy a second?

Sold mine like new cond for $300 ''starvel finish'' it is a heavy gun but that helps soak up some recoil, tho I wouldnt choose it for any kind of carry.IMO

Years ago when the company would back them, it would've been a viable purchase option.

                    Today? Not so much.

There are plenty of reliable, used, .45 auto options out there these days.
