Are those decal grips the sand paper or rubber grips on your 17? How do you like them?

Rubber I love the rubber ones 100x more then the sandpaper type I also cut out my own shapes out of the decal grip and place them where I like them. Also to the OP surefire makes one of the sturdiest slimmest adapters for H&K's to be able to run any light out on the market. You gotta pay to play though. It's what I plan on getting when I get my hands on a usp.

ive used surefire, streamlight/insight respectively. it depends on your budget and uses. all the lights mentioned above, work great. but what you plan on doing with them will help determine which direction to go for the long haul.


if you want a basic home defense light, maybe something specifically designed for the USP? i would go with a streamlight/insight m2 UTL. it is built from the ground up around the USP and usp compact models. (no adaptor required) the switches, the attachment method, its all quick and easy. plus, injection molded polymer means the gun wont have much added weight. these lights go between 140-170 bucks. but they are well worth the price.

the m2 also uses a diffused incandescent bulb. the advantage to this is better color rendition and identification. plus, unlike the other lights, the beam is adjustable.



the TLR1 however is also a great light if your looking for the added durability of an aluminum housing. the switches are not a big PLUS for me, but they are workable. the LED-based light is designed to take a beating, at an affordable price. the only thing i dont like is the lack of practical pressure switches. the TLR1 requires a different plug on the back and then it wouldnt even fit on a handgun. it also still requires an adaptor rail. But at 100 dollars, its a great value.


the surefire X series is top tier investment. if you are looking for a duty or no BS no frills tactical light that will never let you down, be prepared to fork out the $$$. the body of the X series lights is damn near bullet proof. the specially angled lens focuses the perfect amount of light onto the target, both at point and spillover.

the switches of the X series are nice and sturdy, and will stay on under heavy recoil. the attachment method, is not a big plus for me. but the design of the x series has obviously had alot of attention. with its features and durability, legendary customer service, you get way more than you pay for. but thats not saying the cheaper lights are crap. this would simply be the mercedes of tactical lights. an insight/streamlight would be the lexus.

Surefire or Streamlight, both work well. By preference, I'd pick one that didn't need an adapter rail... one less thing to go wrong when you really need it.

Make sure you try each type. They all have different activations. The Surefire you push forward for momentary. The Insight you push down.

Since momentary is all I would ever use that is very important to me.

I prefer a light that requires me to move my support hand as little as possible to activate.
