Weapon Light

I am thinking of putting a light on my HK USP. It will be used mainly for home defense, not interested in a laser/ light combo. Any suggestions as to which one? Surefire? Streamlight? Insight?

I personally prefer Surefire. Cost is up there a little bit, but it's well worth it for the performance, durability, warranty, and customer service you have behind each one.

Surefire if you must get the cream of the crop. Streamlight is the best value. They've got comparable specs.

I was just playing with the surefire that Juice has posted above and i was very impressed with how bright and slim it was I would go with that if I was thinking of buying one

HK USP's have a proprietary rail, so you're pretty limited in what lights you can attach to it unless you also purchase a rail adapter, such as the one made by GG&G.

If you decide to forego the rail adapter, the Insight Technologies M2 is specifically designed to fit on the HK USP rail.

If you get a rail adapter, then you can't go wrong with any Streamlight light. They'll give you the best bang for your buck, especially the TLR-1.

surefire/streamlight/insight are all good, but also having a laser is nice for night/hd, w/o killing your night vision.

but based on the thread title and for hd, surefire, but on a 12ga's fore-end.

The very best weapons light is an automotive one.. you know the big ones that look blue in your rearview mirror. You will need a backpack for the die hard or optima deep cycle battery and some duct tape to get it on the gun but it will be worth it.

I haven't personally messed with the streamlight but I'm going to buy the Streamlight TLR-1S next Thursday. I want it for the strobe capability and its the best bang for the buck. I saw some videos on youtube about the TLR1S and they demonstrate the power of the light and how fast the strobe goes. They say the strobe is at a very good speed so the operator isn't bothered by it. I would post youtube links but I'm on my phone

I weighed the Streamlight and Surefire before deciding on a Streamlight TLR-1.

The price and design advantages were not proportional, and I could not justify spending almost twice the amount on a light that didn't give even close to twice the performance.

I have a Streamlight TLR-3 on my full sized USP .40.

Optics Planet sells an HK USP specific TLR-3 that fits the USP proprietary rail, which saves you even more money and hassle.

Look and works very nicely. Best bang for buck.
