Small compact 9mm.

So I am in the market for a small compact 9mm.

I been looking at the Kahr PM9 but I hate the fact that it's double action only.

I guess I hate it because of the long travel and that the pull is heavy.

Sig P238 is perfect but it's .380.

Not that there is anything wrong with .380 but you know, the price and the availability.

So do you guys know any similar sized 9mm that is single action only or at least something close?

I'm not crazy about mag capacity, 6+1 or something around there is perfect for me though no single shot.

You might consider the Glock 26, if you like Glock-type triggers. 10 rounds in a pocket pistol.

I'm selling a S&W CS9 soon--perhaps that might suit you. It's DA/SA and has a great decocking lever/safety. It's also a pocket-sized 9mm with 7+1 capacity.

Keltec pf9 (I love kel tec) is a DAO...and as I have said, I prefer SA.

And as for glocks they are awesome but I like single stack mags better when it comes to carry.

The mag release is kind of funky. I almost sold mine before a buddy told me to try using my trigger finger vice my thumb, and accessories aren't really out there.

Glocks are always good. Kahr has some interesting small affordable 9mm in the CW9.

and the SA EMP is the ticket if you really want a single action. Along the similar lines are the Para USA WHX129R and two other variants in 9mm single action.

And don't forget the Para CWX79R/L/N, 3 inch barrel with 9mm chambering and LDA for a more manageable trigger than a DAO.

Personally i don't feel undergunned with the .380acp round. It has been shown to meet or exceed ballistic gelatin tests, wet denim tests, and i've seen many reports of 2000+ rounds without any issues in many different platforms. (bersa, ruger, etc)

My bersa only had 500rds through it when i gave it tomy dad, but it was 100% relaible even at that point.

In 9mm, to answer you question, maybe check out taurus mil-pro 9mm's, or the new sr9c by ruger.

My opinion is that the .380 is simply a bit more sensitive to the specific scenario. At "conversational" distances, the right .380 round is plenty effective. As you gain distance, the .380 will suffer. It's virtually worthless beyond about 10-15 yards, in my opinion.

I submit that a sensible person would probably at least try to not be shooting at that distance in most self-defense scenarios ... that's a better time to run away, find cover, or close to engage if you must. Scenarios can and do vary widely however, so YMMV. It would be a silly choice as a military or LE duty round, for instance, as greater distances are often the case, as well as the need to shoot through concealment.

I'd prefer to have 9mm or greater any time that I am able to carry it. Sometimes a tiny .380 is all that is reasonably possible ... and you can't shoot what you don't have.

You could get a compact CZ 75 and have it modified to SAO.
