Who makes them and which would you recommend? Love the feel, cheaper ammo than .45, an low recoil. Any more positives? And what are the negatives other than 9 bullets per mag standard.

Looking for a 9mm 1911...

Springfield and Kimber currently have gun on the list - -
The only negatives I can see are that it's a 9mm, and that it's a 9mm!
Seriously though, if you use it for defense the negative is that for the one extra bullet, you lose a LOT of stopping power. Other than that a 9mm 1911 is quite fun to shoot as the minor muzzle flip gets it back on target quickly.I voted against Obama before it was cool.
Originally posted by 1911LuvrI beg to differ. The full length dust cover rail makes a world of difference in the "when I run out of bullets I'm going to beat you to death with the pistol" look that causes bad guys to run in fear, and lesser men to feel inadequate. It looks just plain beastly and the extra heft up front does help manage recoil a bit better. Plus, an angel told me that when God called JMB to heaven it was to build him a full rail 1911!Comment

I have a springfield. There was just a thread about this on the 1911 forum too. Love mine, it's been a perfect shooter right out of the box, goes bang every time! over 1K rounds, no hiccups! not sure what all the complaining is about them-or any 1911
You'll love it, I'm sure!
negatives, they're hard to find! I ordered mine online, but I know someone who waited a year to get one into a local store. We were just talking about this at the range today, if you can find one GET IT!!! mine was just at $1,000, not including FFL, taxes, extra mags, a decent holster, any other modifications. Be prepared to spend some $$$. I left everything stock except the grips, mag release, slide release, and mag well. It adds up quick!!! but you already know that
A few guys I've talked to said they don't like the full length guide rod. I don't have a preference so just left it in.
So other than the $$$ and availability they're perfect! GET ONE!!!sigpicComment

It's the spring guide rod. the 9mm springfield comes with a full length one and you have to use a tool to take apart. That was one complaint I've heard people talk about, they took them out for the 'regular' GI ones. I'm not much of a gunsmith girl, so can't give you all the details. But that'll get you started! Maybe someone else will chime in here, or look on the 1911 forum for more help in that area!sigpicComment

I picked up a Springfield Loaded 9mm a couple week ago and I love it!!! I got because 1911's fit me the best and the 9mm is a cheap round to shoot.
