It's my understanding that all handguns sold in CA after the new year must have a chamber loaded indicator. My question is what about existing used guns that do not have this feature? Is it going to be similar to the drop test laws where "noncompliant" guns can still be transferred from one CA resident to another through a private party transfer? Thanks.

For handguns not on the Roster by 31 December 2005, it's
EITHER loaded chamber indicator
OR magazine disconnect in 2006;
BOTH in 2007.
Any weapon on the Roster may continue to be sold as-is, but a manufacturer can't put a weapon on the list in 2006 without having one of those features.
PPT doesn't use the Roster.ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page
Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good! -
You can't buy a frame only (AFAIK) because it is impossible to test just a bare frame for the safety tests (no hammer/trigger/sear/etc to "drop/safety test") anyways, so this law shouldn't do anything to change that.Originally posted by PrydeDoes this law only apply to complete handguns?
What if I wanted to buy just a frame (the FFL required and registered part of a handgun), how would that work with the chamber indicated law?
If I'm wrong, someone correct me because I want to buy some 1911 frames!Comment

sorry, you can't buy just a frame in Kali...
(Except through PPT or "personal importation" when moving into the state)

it's my understanding that Glock already has added chamber indicators to most of their pistols. I would not be surprised if by 2007 they add a magazine disconnect.
On the otherhand though... this is going to make some small companies EXTREMELY big. Kel Tec was a company NO ONE had ever heard of and then along came SB-23 and they achieved a near monopoly over semi-auto .223s in Kali.
I mean just think of it... now that NY is going to be just like Kali and NJ mostly is... that means Kel Tec has a monopoly to sell .223 semi-auto polymer rifles to nearly 1/7 of the US population! I bet whoever started that company is happy about SB-23!Comment
