Refinishing Question

I just ordered a can of gunkote... Having second thoughts on the frame. I might just go after it with a touch up pen. Stand by for updates in the coming weeks

TWO WORDS: Gun-Kote.

It's a damn tough and beautiful finish. I did both here pistols at home myself. I had them aluminum-oxide blasted, then I degreased, sprayed, baked at almost 400 degrees. Bam! They got a newww looooook. They're RIA 1911s, which basically come parkerized. Now I've got two-off Rocks'. Just Kote' your pistol and you won't be sorry.

ooo that looks nice. are any of those 1911's a aluminum alloy frame? i don't know if i should blast it, or sand it a little to keep the anodization, just just leave it be... and go after it with a touch up pen -_- i email brownells about it and they keep telling me to sandblast it... but never mentioning if removing the annotation would weaken the frame.

Why not have the frame striped, and re-anodized. Just make sure you polish the frame to a shine before re-ano. Ask the anodizer to put on extra coating thickness when he runs it to make up for dimension change.

If the anodizer knows what he is doing, it will not be a problem.

how much does anodizing cost?

$25-35 strip, $40-50 to plate. You might find one that will strip for free, if he is going to do the re-plate work.

Tripps? Who/what's that?

Tripp used to be a legend in the gun refinishing business. They stopped the refinishing business a while back and I'm still kicking myself for not having sent my USP slide to them. They were highly regarded as being among the best of the best when it came to hard chrome.

K if Antibes interested in gun kote I just got word back from brownells and more importantly gun kote themselves. And they say that applying gun kote to anodized finishes generally okay as ling as the surface is clean. I'm going to lightly sand it just to add alittle bit more tooth. But anyways, thought I'd let you guys know.
