    Refinishing Question

Hey guys, just acquired a police trade in sig p228. The condition is good, however something is going to have to be done about the finish. I'm thinking sandblasting and gun kote, but i hear removing the anodizing on the frame is a no no. Are there any other options with gun kote on the frame? What are my other options to refinishing? i know about CCR, but i don't wanna ship around. Thanks!

I asked the same question few weeks ago with the same condition of the gun, instead mine is a Hk USPc. Like you, I don't want to send my piece out. Someone had suggested this guy,

I haven't talk to the guy yet. But he's local, here in Concord (Walnut creek). From his site, he seems decent on all the refinishes. Why not give the guy a call and see what he can do for you. I'll probably let him work on mine in September. If I beat you to it. I'll post the results. Let's support our local vendors!
Well, if you are Chiseen enough, you can do a search and try to do the refinish yourself I.E. Parkerizing. L0L

lol, i might be chiseen... but i'm kinda cheap....(yeah... add to the stereotype...lol) so parkerizing sounds too involved with all the stuff i gotta get. but yeah, maybe i'll call that guy up if i can't find a good way of coating the aluminum frame myself.

It looks just plain beastly and the extra heft up front does help manage recoil a bit better. Plus, an angel told me that when God called JMB to heaven it was to build him a full rail 1911!

228 refinished by CCR if you decide to ship it. shipping isn't too bad and the end result is worth it.

depends...what their current list is like. What they let me do is send a deposit to hold my spot, then they called me when it was my turn to send it in and get it back in 1-3 weeks depending on what you are having done to it. I've used them twice for my sigs. Both times they took longer than they quoted.

Ahh I see.... I think ima just use gun kote and do it myself. The finish on the slide is the real issue... Maybe I can do something else on the frame since I can't sand blast it.....

What color is the frame? It looks pretty sharp.

                      it's their tri-tanium color.

yeah...the blasting really helps the paint stick. I don't know what else to suggest using for the frame.

I've been thinking about this frame problem all day... I think if I just rough it up a little with 600grit sand paper or some steelwool it should be enough for the gunkote to stick well... I don't know, how does that sound yo you guys?

Phantom Finishing has pretty good prices... is it really going to save you to do it yourself?

Gun kote is 40 bucks vs 150ish for a pro to refinish it. But it's more about the turn around time... He said 4 to 6 weeks...

I was thinking more like, in case you mess it up etc. Although if you're more of a DIY kind of person, go right ahead. The turn around time of course is dramatically different.
