dude why am I hating you right now. "You have everything, I have NOTHING!"
anyways sorry 'bout that. seems you got yourself ready for WW3.
If your gut says FN57, then you should get it.
How about a Remington 5R? Comes in .308 for sure and 300win I think. About a grand on gunbroker, Leopold mark4 for 700-800, harris stand, etc. Should get you to about the 2 grand mark -- also something I don't have.
Good luck. Do let us know what you decide on. Almost feels like I'm shopping.

The ammo might not be so much of an issue as CGF is at the ready with what looks to be a quick case to shoot down AB962. I'd recommend finding a Rem 700 with 5R barrel.

Do you shoot any USPSA or IDPA? If not I would look into that. Your Kimber will do fine for single stack competition. If I were in your shoes here is how I would spend it.

            8 Wilson 47d magazines.
            10,000 Wolf large pistol primers
Blade Tech 1911 quad magazine holster
            Blade Tech 2 magazine holster
            Blade Tech 1911 paddle holster
            Good quality belt
            8lbs of 231
            5000 Missouri major PF #68 H&G LSWC
            FO front sight for Kimber

If you have anything left over get more powder and bullets.

Good suggestions here, I've thought about shooting some USPSA or IDPA but the reality of my situation is that with a wife and three kids and another one coming any day now I don't get much time out of the house to go shooting. If I do get out of the house I'm probably going hunting or to some public land where I can shoot all of my guns instead of just one.

As far as getting a custom 1911, I've toyed with the idea before but decided against it for a couple reasons. The main reason is I doubt I'll ever have the time to acquire and maintain the skill level which would make owning a Wilson Combat or similar gun any better than something from like my Kimber.

I hadn't heard of the Remington 5R, althoug I've previously looked at the M24 and discarded the idea due to cost. Are these rifles as accurate as an M24? I guess it doesn't matter since it definately shoots better than I do but it would be nice to have a rifle I know I won't ever catch up with....

I've thought about getting a glock, probably the Glock 22 since I have lots of mags, holsters, etc. left over from when I was an LEO. The thing is it just doesn't sound very exciting so I'm either looking for something unusual, hence the five-seven, or something for good long range shooting. I looked into the 5R but unfortunately it doesn't come in anything larger than .308 and I'm looking for 300 win mag or the equivalent....

In this economy I'd say save that $2K. But if you must spend it then a really nice 1911 would be a great choice. So would an M1A or a Kimber 84M in .308 with a nice scope.

I think you mentioned you did not have a revolver in your stable. Then by all means get a Colt Python.

The search, find, acquisition and finally ownership of this gun is an enjoyable journey in itself.

Then after your Python, as you get more money, start building a "Snake" collection.
