1911, Glock, HK

I have a friend who does a lot of hiking in rough terrain and harsh weather. Freezing cold, extreme heat and dust. He also carries concealed also. He needs something that he can use for an all around pistol. He does not want to travel with mulitple guns and ammunition. Cost is really not an issue as he is rich as sin. He is thinking 45 or 357. He has narrowed his selection down to some type of 1911 or G21, HK45 or an 4 inch 686 What this selection what is your suggestion?

I told him if he hikes more than he carries ccw maybe the 357 would be best and if he CCWs more either the G21 or HK45 would be it.

If he regularly goes through different extreme terrains and climates I would say a G21 would be a perfect gun, after all, that's what they are designed for. Durable, reliable, easy to maintain. I doubt he could go wrong with any of the guns you mentioned, but I would choose a Glock.

If he just goes hiking a lot, I would say the S&W 686 would be a great backpacking gun. .357mag, accurate, dependable, how could you go wrong?

Well the big question is what is he trying to defend himself against? If it's against people, then any semi-automatic would work. If it's against dangerous predators, he's going to want a revolver and in a fairly substantial caliber (.454 casull at least)

If he carries in the woods where big cats or bears are present, then I would recommend a 10mm. Glock 20 to be exact. Its the same size as a Glock 21 but shoots a better penetrating round. Since he's rich, he should get some Doubletap ammo.

The Glock or a stainless 686 would be good choices. Both are resistant to climate, sweat and are intuitive to shoot.

Yep it's a sig, so why is it better than the other choices?

I vote for the damned expensive 1911 in 10mm. The glock in 10mm is a good shooter also but might be too blue collar for your rich *** friend.
