all stamped slide Sigs have machined extractors...because the journey is the worthier part...The Shepherd's Tale -
you can still get the stamped slide.
order it from http://www.dansammo.com/firearms.asp. its 800, shipping included. get it b4 they are all sold out since sig germany no longer made them with stamped slide since 08 i think. the only thing with that gun is that it does not comes with warranty.Comment

the stamped slides all use the internal extractor. the extractor is made of spring steel as there isn't an addition spring powering it. there is no spring steel MIM used by Sig, their MIM extractors were only used after the started using the external design...because the journey is the worthier part...The Shepherd's TaleComment

It says German P226, but the picture shows a stainless slide while the description states folded carbon steel.you can still get the stamped slide.

for me it has nothing to do with "where its made" i just prefer the weight and balance of the folded slideLong time Garand shooter, recent AR convert
Fast is fine, accuracy is final. You got to learn to shoot slow, real fast...

so what is folded? is that anything like how swords are made? the black smith keeps folding the metal ontop of itself and ponding it till its together? anyone know how they are made?Have an idea or invention? Need something designed and made? Click: HERE
✟ In the beginning was the 1911, and the 1911 was THE pistol, and it was good. And behold the Lord said, "Thou shalt not muck with my disciple John's design for it is good and it workith. For John made the 1911, and lo all of his weapons, from the designs which I, the Lord, gave him upon the mountain."✟Comment

Says 226 AL SO. SIG Germany shows a stamped slide. I swore off SIGs, but this looks nice and it comes from the SIG homeland. As for the US vs German SIG debate, I'll take German, please. The US company is a piece of garbage and I'll never give them money.

nope folded/stamped slides are quite as labour intensive...it's actually a product of the machine age and mass production.
the slide starts as a flat sheet of steel and is bent into shape like you would fold sheet metal..it's just that the metal is thicker...to form the slide tube. they then weld on the front and rear caps...because the journey is the worthier part...The Shepherd's TaleComment

I've got an old W. German P220 with the American mag release. Mine is part of the very first shipment to the U.S. and I bought it new in 87.
Who's to say which is better? Could it have to do with production, perhaps smaller volume and more attention to detail vs. mass production?
Mine has been flawless to date. No joke, never a FTRB, FTF - nothing. Add to this, my Sig until recently never saw a factory round and of the reloads I fed it, they were all weights, power levels and typically cast.
The reason I like my W. German Sig has to do with the Cold War markings. I'm a child of the 50's and there used to be 2 Germany's.
Sort of like my motorcycle which is an 85 and had the carter red box on the 55 mph indicator. Sweet.

I was brought up on Sigs from a shooters standpoint and from a collector's standpoint, German made models as years progressed. German made Sig's tend to hold value and command more demand then their American counterparts. Given that the ones I have had in my possession have been far more then reliable and which I appreciate more so due to aesthetic sensibilities, what more can I ask for? There really isn't anything wrong with American manufactured and assembled Sigs but, personally, do not see the point of selling the same model under so many different guises but that is just me. The only Sig I would probably purchase new nowadays would be a simple p239 in .357, although if I did find one of those rare German made 9mm models, I would probably try to purchase that first and foremost. This has more to do with personal preference...Comment
