Cant pull back on glock slide, spring too strong

    Even though you prefer her to have a semi-auto, wouldn't it be more prudent for her to have a firearm that she can fully operate? If she can't rack the slide, how is she going to clear a misfire?

      If she literally can not do the Push/Pull method (which Ive seen a 60 yr old frail asian woman do in a class) then I suggest the sells the Glock 19 (to me) and buys a .22 Magnum revolver. If she's so weak she cant work a slide, then a small lightweight revolver in a strong cartridge like .38, .357 etc is going to knock her on her ***.

      And BTW, people used revolvers for many years just fine....in fact they still do. Any gun is better than no gun, especially a gun that she can operate well.

            Of course shes not going to be using it alone until she can safely operate the slide thats why I'm here asking questions so we can work on it. :-p

            She just bought it less then a month ago so we are not going to move her to a revolver, shes going to have to work on it. It my mom can do it so can she.

            This friend is about 50 years old and works with me at work.

              I was watching what was obviously a straw purchase at Turner's a few weeks ago.
              A woman was buying a DE. BF/Hubby was with her, he did more handling of the gun than she. Took her 5 attempts to chamber and another 5 attempts to clear, and they still passed her on the handling demonstration.

                  how is she griping the slide? a lot of people put grip take (skate board grip tape) on their slides or grips for better traction. if you change the spring out to a much weaker one you will have many failure to loads! so it up to her. My GF has problems with my 1911, the way I showed her was to keep her finger away from the trigger, get a good grip, and with the other hand grab most of the slide. bring it close to her and pull the slide back. if you bring the weapon closer you have more muscle working for you. tell her to practice with a un-loaded weapon and see how she does.

                    Unless she seriously has some degenerative muscle condition, she CAN rack the slide with her current strength. She just needs to learn how, it's probably mostly a mental block anyways. She thinks she's too weak when she first tries to muscle it back, so she doesn't put true effort into it. Even though she somehow managed to do it okay at the handling test...

                    There were videos on here awhile ago of a very small girl, maybe 12 or something, couldn't be more than 90 lbs, doing combat type drills with a glock, and clearing several snap-cap misfires in the process.

                      Have her turn the gun gangsta style, make sure the hand holding the gun is fully extended elbows locked. With the other hand have her hold the slide by the serrations and have her move her gun hand slightly away from her body as the other pulls the slide in a burst of energy.

                      If she can't handle this method she probably can barely hold the gun. My little sister was 11 when I bought my glock 23 and she could rack the slide.

                      Your only other option is to shoot about 1500 rds, and rack the slide back about another 2000 cycles. That will loosen it up and keep it reliable but that's a lot of work. lol.

                      I hear HKs have a soft slide pull. Maybe that is what you should have gotten her.

                      EDIT: I just had a thought, make sure her hand is riding up on the grip as high possible. If she holds it low it will leverage the gun out of her hand.

                        Like others suggested, have her grip the slide with her left hand, and the frame with her right. Make sure her finger is off the trigger. Rack it by pulling the slide and pushing the frame. If she can't do that: revolver.

                          i had a 10 year old girl who was able to run a Sig 225 during a 3 day class without problems. the only accommodation we made in technique was how she released her mags during mag change drills...she released with the off hand
