If you guys want to see some more of Jerry's technique, check out that video. Watch him rip through a 1911. It's quite humbling to watch his skills. That and he can shoot 6 shots from a revolver, reload, then another 6 into a target 10 yards away, blindfolded, in about 5.5 seconds. Crazy consistency.

Just tried Jarret's grip today, and saw a significant improvement in my groups. I don't find it to be the most natural feel, but it's effective.

High thumbs is how to shoot most auto's, and certainly all 1911's.

I couldn't shoot my snubby to save my life (which is the point) until I watched those videos. He is a great shooter and teacher imo.

it only feels funny because you're used to griping things using your thumbs. the thumbs forward grip takes the thumbs out of the equation to maximize the grip with your palms and fingers

The thumb over grip Miculek demonstrates is the one component I disagree with a bit.

There is a large nerve bundle under the web between thumb and first finger. Wrapping the support hand thumb over and applying 70% of your grip pressure to the area is going to stimulate the nerve bundle to some degree or another and could affect your strong hand. I learned about this in a class in the early 80's when two hand grips were still kind of a new thing and there was lots of experimenting going on.

I also think that if you shoot both semi's and revolvers that any manner of wrapping the thumb over the top is a bad thing to ingrain into your memory. Practice a lot with a snub using that technique, then pick up a semi in a critical incident and the 'yowch' potential becomes clear.

But that's just me. We all have to find what works best for ourselves building from a basic grip, and Miculek's basic grip is nails.

Jerrys revolver technique goes counter to how most people are taught to hold a gun. The general rule of thumb is to hold the gun with about the same grip tension as you would to swing a hammer. Jerry holds the gun a bit harder than that with his right hand but has a death grip with his left. This is how he controls recoil so well. Unless you practice that all the time you end up steering the gun when you try it for the first time. He says you can put your trigger finger in different places on the trigger depending on how much control or speed you need.

Most of use have lightend out triggers for more speed but Jerrys rebound springs, the one that returns the trigger, is actully heavier than stock so his trigger finger does not come off of it.

But don't think Jerry stuck in his ways, a few years ago he totally changed his stance for shoot Steel Challenge to get a quicker first shot. It looked wierd but it worked. He also learned from a female shooter on how to control muzzle flip better by keep your elbows high and in-line with the rest of you arms, that way the recoil come straight back rather than making your arms hinge up at the elbow.

                The man is amazing.
