I have been going through my safe and comparing what I own to the list of legal handguns. I have two XD's (.40 and a .45) with the hi-cap mags. they are not listed, naturally, by model number. Will I have a problem registering the pistols because of the model number or will i be OK as long as I change out the mags for ten rounders? You guys have been great and I want to thank everyone for all the help!

The "List" is for sales that go through a dealer, if you already own something and move into the state you're just fine so long as your pistols don't have any assault weapon characteristics (removable mag located outside the grip i.e. AR-15 pistol or threaded barrel). Other than that, just leave the hi-caps in NV and I think you'll be fine.

As pointed out, if you already own a pistol that's not an assault weapon by characteristics, you're OK. Just bring it in. If for some reason you decide to later sell some of these handguns you've brought in that are not on the approved list, you can sell them by private party transfer, which is exempt from the approved list. For example, if you bring in a Taurus PT1911 or a Dan Wesson Razorback in 10mm and later want to sell them because you don't want them anymore, you would have no problem finding buyers to buy them by private part transfer. You might even make a small profit in the sale and help offset some of your moving expenses. I'm sure others can mention other desirable handguns that aren't on the approved list.Comment

Or for instance if you bought in a Seecamp LWS .380 and decided you no longer had a need for it, you would be able to find a buyer right here in CA...oh this...

In the "Moving from UT to CA" thread, it was brought up that importing handguns for the purpose of sale is illegal. I think buying a dozen saturday night specials, moving to CA, and selling them all within a couple weeks would be a bit suspicious, no?I am not a lawyer, the above does not constitute legal advice.

No snitching is necessary, in the emails posted between DOJ and various anti-gun groups, it was quite apparent that we are being watched. I'm not sure if these threads would be admissible in court as evidence but I'm sure it wouldn't help matters.JPN
