Maybe I missed the question. But if your asking if you should get proficient with the ones you have before buying others, I agree. Currently I have a RIA 1911A1 and before I buy any others I plan on getting proficient with mine before I buy anymore. Personally I am a terrible shot with handguns but very good with rifles. That I have a little time to mess with that is.

If I got the question/answer wrong then I'm sorry haha.
    Anyone wanna go shooting?

Your earning ability will stop way before you learning ability.
1st get all the guns you want, then get all the ammo for those guns you can possibly shoot, then retire and have fun.

My only criticism is how will you know which guns are better than another until you've actually owned it for awhile (no, I'm not talking about holding it once and disliked it or fired it a few times). Buy used and resell my friend.

Proficiency is good. I went through a time, years ago, when I could ill afford to buy anything. But I love to shoot. So I became extremely proficient with the one handgun I owned. As I am ambidextrous in most things, I taught myself to shoot both right and left handed. Today, years later and nearing retirement I enjoy shooting all the handguns I own.

No harm in buying if you can afford it. But I'm glad you want to spend time getting to know your investments.

Depends on what you mean by 'proficient.' 6" groups at 25 yds consistently? 3" groups at 7 yards?
In any case, I've found that I enjoy my trips to the range more if I bring more than one handgun. I guess I enjoy the variety.

That is my issue! None of my friends own a firearm except for myself. I would like to shoot with someone that has their own toys so we can compare and contrast haha. Maybe we should shoot sometime and solve that problem!

It is true, you will not be able to resist the urge. The force is too strong.

Lots of people collect things that they don't use. I think there are many gun collectors on this forum that barely shoot at all. Nothing wrong with that.

Look man, you want to stop, but its like drugs! All of a sudden, you'll see a bersa thunder on sale fro 250 somewhere or a GP100 for 450 and wont be able to resist. Sorry, but i'm two years in as well and see no end in sight in spite of telling myself to stop numerous times.
