I've had both but sold the Kimber. I just put my second 1911 on layaway and you guessed it, it's a SA. Springfield Armory's lifetime warranty seals the deal for me.

The short supply is because Kimbers don't stay on the shelf like those SA's do!

Seriously, you are asking who likes apples and who likes oranges. Go shoot both and you decide. I have had both. All but two SA's have ben sold, yet the Kimbers remain. They both feel different in the hand. Personal preference is the biggest factor here. I am a Kimber guy, so the below info is from a Kimber point of view.

I have never had a Kimber that didn't run like it should. I have never had ANY of the problems associated with the internet rumors, including the dreaded external extractor. My daily carry is a Kimber series one. My CCW is a Kimber CDP compact with the EE.

All companies will make a turd every once in a while. My kimbers have all (8 of them currently) been perfect.

I have both. The Kimber has never been sent back the SA was...... People like to complain about Kimbers for some reason. Ive never had an issue nor have I ever seen one with Kimbers.

I have a SA loaded and it has been flawless, It has only seen reloads from the 800 fps range down to 500fps I would guess, with SWCs no less.

Can't speak for Kimber but I've been very happy with my SA

I dont own either but if I had to choose one I'd go with SA only because
I like their models and customer service.

I'll join the crowd and say Kimber, I also have a SA, a DW and a Colt, all 4 of them are great guns and I have not had any problems …………. Yet. It might happen or may not only time will tell.

Had many Kimbers, had many Springfields.

Sold all the Kimbers, kept and bought more Springfields.

Sometimes I think this question is like asking a bunch of photographers:

                          "Nikon or Canon?"

I'll vote Springfield because i love mine, my dad loves his, my brother loves his... Although, i am not voting against Kimber. They seem nice and i woldnt mind getting one in the future. But my springfield guns are great to me, and yes their customer service is top notch. I have over 1k rounds through my loaded, and its only getting better.
