I went to the range with some buddys and one brought his brand new XD tactical full size in .45. Shooting this thing felt all wrong, I cant put my finger on it. It just felt extremely awkward, like a square brick. I own a 1911, CZ Sp01, and Glocks, I figured it couldnt be to far from the glock. Anyone shed some light on this? I need a .40 and dont want to write XD's off if it's just a fluke experience.

First time shooting a XD...... Not impressed

Well the .45 and .40 don't share the same frame. I didn't like the feel of the .45 as much as I did the .40. I think it's because I have smaller hands so the smaller grip on the .40 felt better. Go hold a .40 and see if you like it any better. -
Ill try it, but I do have big hands........"I have a very strict gun control policy: if there's a gun around, I want to be in control of it."

Try checking out the S&W M&P, I heard that they mocked the 1911 grip angle when they designed it. If you like your 1911 the m&p will probably be comfortable for you. As far as reliability, I've heard the m&p is comparable to glock. I think it's a pretty good lookig gun, and it feels good to me, I havnt actually shot one just yet.Comment

While I don't own either of them, I have shot XD's in .45ACP and in .40S&W. Neither of them worked for me, so I won't buy them. They didn't fit my hand very well. I didn't like the trigger. And they seemed to have more recoil than other pistols of the same calibers. So, I didn't go with the XD's. Nothing against them, just personal preference.
To give you some perspective on where I'm coming from, I happen to be a huge fan of 1911's. I'm not saying they are the best, but they are the standard by which I compare other semi-auto pistols. I love Sigs and S&W wheel guns. I like HK USPs. I like Glocks but won't buy one since they don't fit my hand. When the government fears the people, there is liberty. I like the XD except for the stock trigger, and that's not horrible.
they fit my hand very well actually, better than a glock by miles and miles. The Range is a place where you carry a gun around and spend most of your time shooting it.
The Real World is a place where you carry a gun around and spend most of your time not shooting it.
Plan Accordingly.

Usually polymer guns are not too impressive to shoot, like a 1911 or a metal frame Beretta, CZs, etc. would be.
The lousy trigger on the glock is a classic example.
They are just made to do the job.Comment

XD's are good guns....GLOCKS are better guns...you didnt mention price..only caliber....Buy what you can shoot and shoot well..make sure it fits your body shooting, style etc..ergonomics...blah blah blah

I hate the loaded chamber indicator.... Makes me feel like I'm firing a glock with training wheels... I'm not blind or suffering from alzheimer's yet, so I don't need a loaded chamber indicator.Comment
