I hate to be a 'use the search button' guy, but holycow there have been a zillion of these 357 sig threads.

It's really fun to shoot. And it's price isn't much higher than 40s&w, and much easier to find.

Because of the overall satisfying experience. Good for home and fun on the range. Otherwise 40 S&W. And it's the same magazine for my favorite pistol.

Because it's lime having 4 guns instead of 2!(almost). I have a sig 229 and a glock 22. All you need is the 357 sig factory barrel and your good to go. Very fun to shoot. It can be hard to find sometimes but shoot 40 when you can't!

Because nothing beats the hell out of your gun like the 357 sig. It's a 9mm in a necked down 40 case. If you really want some fun, 7.62X25 is something to explore.

You .357 Sig guys really need to look into 9x25 Dillon. Same concept only on PCP, crack, and meth instead of just crack.

I got it more for novelty. My P229 is chambered in .40 and I purchased a conversion barrel just so I COULD shoot .357SIG if I wanted to.

Many studies on the effectiveness of handgun rounds have been done. The .357 magnum round has something like a 98% one shot stop effectiveness in 125gr. JHP. Meaning if you hit your target with a 125 gr. JHP in .357 magnum, it is likely you will stop your intended target.

Sig Sauer took that, found they could up the ballistics on a 9mm to .357 magnum ballistics, and thus the .357 Sig was born. In addition, you can swap the barrels with a .40S&W, so cheap range time, highly effective in the field.

Shot placement also counts, but if you have an effective round when you hit the target, it is more likely the affair will end sooner rather then later.

Note these same studies also found that a 230 gr. FMJ for .45 ACP has a slightly lower one shot stop percentage then a 60 gr. .32 ACP Winchester Silvertip. A big reason the Seecamp became much desired. And lending more support to shot placement is very important in ending the affair.

Just a little bit of history.
