    Which Dan Wesson ?

Well in my quest to buy a 1911 it was a toss up between the Kimber eclipse II and a Dan Wesson PM7. I have started to lean more towards the PM7 side untail I went to fowlers and was told that if it was between the Kimber and the PM7 go with Kimber, but if the DW was a bobtaill go with DW.. This is a first for me, the only DW's I see people talking about are the PM7's. He really did not elaborate on his reasons ( may of been personal prefference ) I am really wanting a 5" and the bob is 4.3" so unless there is a valid reason why the pm7 is less of a gun the the bob I think I am still going to look for the PM7. So what do you calgunners think ?

there are two dan wesson 1911s on the roster. the pointman 7 and the commander classic bobtail (cbob).

don't really know why the guy(s) at fowler would tell you that, seems they don't really know why either. it just comes down to personal preference. if you want a goverment model get the pointman 7, if you want a bobtailed commander, get the cbob. they're both fine guns and you can't really go wrong.

That's good advice. Since there are only two to choose here in PRK, and they are both winners, the question you have to ask yourself is "Which size do I want?"

Either will serve you well for a lifetime.

So between the cbob and the PM7 it really only comes down to 5" vs 4.3". I see the there both discontinued, so I guess the prices can be increasing but in my searching I have seen a Pm7 go anywhere from just over 1000 up to 1600.. what do you think would be a fair price, 1300?

I'd say go with the Dan Wesson because it is a "Series 70" style gun meaning it does not have the Schwartz firing pin safety mechanism like in the Colt Series 80 and the current Kimber.

          Simpler is better.

But every Kimber I've ever picked up was very well made.

"fair price" i feel is something we can't really help you on. as you said, you've seen the typical price range the pm7 falls into. ask yourself how much you want a pm7 and figure out how much you are willing to spend to make that happen. find the cheapest pm7 online or at a store, factor in all the fees (tax, dros, transfer fees, etc.) and buy accordingly.

I've gotta give the handful of Kimbers that I shot were all really accurate but I've really been digging on the PM7 as of late and would like that to be my next pistol. I may sell my super redhawk to get one.

Personal preference. I prefer full size government models, but they are both excellent guns. The CBOB is really hard to find these days. The PM7 can be found (at inflated prices, but you can find 'em).

The PM-7 and Cbob are not really discontinued. They are still in production for the California market only. Limited production of 200 units each just for CA because that's all that's on the roster. Keith said he won't forget us. New prices are not due to limited production, but increase in quality. Forged frames and new updated internals made in house add to the price. Older models are selling at this price because some dealers think they can get away with it. They're CA only because the flagship Valor is becoming available with multiple options. Full size, bobtail, (Vbob) stainless and black, etc.

If what you want is a full size, get the PM-7. Personal opinion don't care for's on the PM-7 are the FCS, (front cocking serrations) and the plain black target sights. Fusion sells three dot replacements, though.
If you want a commander, get the Cbob. Although it is a shorter barrel, it shoots more accurately than some full size. Mine is awesome. Personal opinion positives are the checkered front strap, fixed three dot night sights, and the bobtail. It is really comfortable in the hand. I had a SA Mil-Spec bobtailed to have a full size bobtail to go with it.

You need to handle a bobtailed pistol first to make sure you like it prior to purchase. Some people don't care for it.

I would go for a DW over any other production gun. That's just my opinion.

PM7 is good also.... for price around $1300 litter high then Kimber but is litter better gun for price.

Don't know where you're located, but Gunrunners in Azusa had both a PM7 and a CBOB a couple weeks ago when I went to pick up my hard to find, factory desert tan teflon coated PM7. Both were about $1150.

The correct answer being both, of course.
