IANAL and this is not legal advice, but my understanding of the law is that you may continue to possess and use any magazine you legally owned before the "hi-cap" ban, and you may use them in any gun they may happen to work with, even guns you purchased after the ban.
For example, I have several "hi cap" mags for AR-15 and Beretta 92FS. These work in guns I have bought since 2000, including a 92FS Compact (the 15 rounders protrude from the grip a bit). My understanding is that I can use these mags legally.
