What ammo does the LAPD and the CHP use?

I plan on purchasing HD rounds for my 9mm, .40 S&W, .357 Sig, and my .45 ACP. Since I keep hearing that it would be more legally sound to use what the local constable use, does anyone know what type/brand of ammunition that the LAPD and the CHP are authorized to use?

??????? Yea, I've heard this type of FUD too but, I've never seen or heard of a case were it made a difference. A buddy of mine who does forensic firearms testing (not topgun7 or even in his dept.) told me to use hard cast lead instead of jacketed ammo.

Regardless of what you use, an attorney will try to spin it to negative effect should you ever be charged with a crime.

just use what you can get your hands on legally, and don't worry.

and as zombietactics stated correctly, if you do find yourself in a self-defense case, the other side will paint whatever rounds you used as "evil". you can be shooting out gummi bears, and they will say you tried killing the man with high fructose corn syrup which can lead to cancer or w/e ridiculous thing they can come up with.

CHP is issued Speer Gold Dot .40 JHP out of the academy.. once we go through those at range, we're issued Remington Golden Sabers .40 JHP.

Rifle and Shotgun ammo.. well, guess you'll have to sign up to find out. Though it should be too hard with my sig...

So what you are saying is that I could use 200g Lead Semi Wad Cutters for Home defense? If that is true, then could I use +P reloads as well? What about rock salt?

You can use whatever ammo you want to (assuming that it is legal to own said ammo in Ca). I do use 200 grain SWCs, from a H&G mold, for SD. I also have a few mags of Rangers and Hydrashocks around. There is no reason that you could not use +P reloads unless your TFH is on way too tight. I would recommend against rock salt though. It just burns but it doesn't stop anyone. In fact, according to my dad (10 years old and raiding a watermelon patch), rock salt made him run home faster than ever before. I don't want to give a BG the extra adreniline rush. Do you?

This is a very amusing list.
