Buying First Pistol

Whats going on guys, I am moving from my long gun craze over to pistols haha. I have spent some time researching and now I want some opinions so in the 5-650 dollar range, what pistol would you recommend? I want to stay on the 9mm or 40 cal platform. I am open to all suggestions lets try not to turn this into a glock>everything debate!! hahaha

My first gun was a Glock17. It will also be the last gun I ever give up. 100% reliable and just stupid easy to use.

CZ makes some just wonderful guns. I own a CZ97b and love it. Had a few jams in the past but they seem to have worked themselves out.

$5~650 will get you pretty much most of common service pistols, you might want to limit it down a bit.

What material type frame do you prefer? Full steel, Stainless, alum alloy, polymer.

Do you like thin but long grip, or wide but short grip?

Do you care about warranty at all? Manufacture's customer service?

How about the cost of magazines?

As it's been often said, the "right" pistol for you is the one that best fits your hand, and that you shoot the best & more accurate with. With that said, the other most often thing said is to go to a range and rent some of those guns and see which ones you like, and try the different calibers (9mm & .40 on those pistols). If you can't get to a range to rent a gun, at least go to a gun shop so you can see in person and hold them in your hands and know what they feel like and how they fit you.

I did this a few times recently, as I was originally set on wanting a XD9. However, after shooting that and other guns, and 9mm vs. .40 vs. 45 ammo, I ultimately decided on a Glock 19. Not saying that's what you should get, but the point is to go out and test different guns & calibers to see what best suits you.

Yea... $500-600 really has a big market. You'd have to narrow down what you want in a gun. Also matters if you want to purchase a new one or not, cause at that price, you can easily get CPO Sigs.

As just random guns to throw out since I don't know what else you're looking for specifically... CZ 75 or SP2022.

It would be best to handle as many of these as you can. The ones that feel best get to be range rentals. Try them at the range, pick the one that best fits you.

Once again......go to a range/ranges that have a good selection of rentals and shoot all that you can. There are several handguns I was dead set on buying in the past until I actually handled and shot them; changed my mind afterwards.

right on, thanks guys, I have shot every hand gun under the sun minus the Czs sadly ..... I just wanted to get some opinions around here. I will probably end up with the XD40 i really like the way it feels. thanks again!

Glock's, Springfield XDs, and S&W M&Ps would be the 3 that I would recommend looking into.
