    S&W 5906

Thinking about selling my stainless S&W 5906 with 2 mags. What would the fair market value be for such a pistol in todays polymer world be? Its condition is 8.5 out of 10 I'd say. Money is tight and want to put it towards a new M&P

early or later model?, 9mm, 40, or 45? ex-police gun?
Alittle more information is needed, but avg. price will be around 500-650 depending on cal. and condition..

Excellent full size, steel framed S&W 3rd generation 9mm! What it's worth and what it will sell for is usually two different prices. If you have the original box, paperwork, factory mags will make a difference in the sale price. Does it have the squared or round trigger guard? Hooded rear adj. sights? The more detailed information the better when selling.

On what you've discribed so far, I say $350 to $450 IMHO.

      Good Luck.

It was purchesed in 1990 in 9mm by me a civilan, round count is under 400. It spent most of its life holstered in my safe.

Is it stainless steel frame or aluminum? I forgot what year and what trigger guard shape it would be, but if the slide finish/color tone matches the frame finish then you can bet high that it's a stainless steel frame. Stainless steel commends a higher price.

Are you better off than you were four years ago?

Curious, why do you wanna sell such a good gun, that has hicap mags?

Today's M&Ps are fine guns - I have an M&P 45 and love it, as well as various 3rd gen S&W guns like 5906, 915, 4506 and 1006 - but there is absolutely NO reason to replace your 5096 with one - especially if you lose mag capacity.

The hicap mags you have will only work in the 5906 and will not work in the M&P 9.

For that reason - alone! - you should keep it since you can't sell the hicaps except as spare parts, and you have a reliable gun with hicap mags.

Polymer is a trend for manufacturability not necessarily adding any huge benefit to the gun. With union labor costs high S&W wants to reduce machine time costs etc.

You'll likely find the 5906 has a bit better trigger than the M&P9, also.

Bill, I live in LA, and by the looks of your profile I see you are in Orange County. We could arange a ftf as soon as I come back to LA from my business trip. I will be visiting the OC in mid April. I can send pics once I get home late next week. And just to get this out since this is Kailfroniastan my grandfathered hi caps will not be part of the sale if we decide on a sale.

Is this the same as a S&W model 59, 9mm 15 rnd capacity?

+1 but I'm sure you have your reasons for wanting to sell it, I look forward to seeing some pictures. I'll send you a pm with some details.

The main reason I wish to sell is that its too heavy in my small/meduim hands. I feel I can't control it as easily. I do not like the trigger though I have never attempeted to adjust it. I do not even know if they can be tuned. Can you shed any light on the matter? But anyhow in the end I know I am a much better shot with USP's and M&P's.
