CZ75b & Other CZ75 models

Again, this is a newbie question for a fellow purchasing his first semi-auto (I've been on rifles and scatterguns all my life):

A quick question for you folks on the CZ75b before I grab mine..

The CZ75 series seems to have MANY models apart from the b, and I was wondering what sets them apart in opinion (rather than statisics). The 75b definately has me sold, but I was curious what the other CZ75 models have to offer.. such as IPSC, SA, etc. For example, I know SA means this gun is Single Action, but can a semi-auto be truly singe action without cocking it or firing once double action? What about the other models?

1911 .45 amd the Browning Hi-Power 9mm pistols are both originally single action only handguns.
In "Auto" guns it's a little different than the typical wild west cowboy single action revolvers.

The CZ 75b is a combo single/double. You can choose if you want to shoot it single or double.

In single action, you pull the hammer back yourself on the 1st shot, the gun pulls it back on it's own after the 1st shot.

Double action is the gun pulling the hammer back while you pull the trigger on the 1st shot.
It's a longer trigger pull in double action... thus many target shooters don't like it as much.

Don't get a Double Action only! You may find after time that it's not all that fun.

others can chime in on the "real" technical terms on the difference in Double v.s. single v.s. Double/single actions.

I have the 75B-SA
I love it, I do not like double action for the fact that the trigger pull is to long on the first shot. Also with the CZ the hammer can be let down on a loaded chamber and still be safe like the double action with decocker, only the SA has to be done manually. So unlike a 1911 that when the chamber is loaded it is cocked.
But the CZ you can let the hammer down on a loaded chamber, much like the new Ruger SA revolvers with the transfer bar.
This must be practiced to do safely, The instrucion are in the Manual.
This is A great pistol for CCW.

My CZ75Bs are my favorite defense handguns. Accurate, reliable, great ergo - I like them a lot.

The hard part now is finding one for sale! I found 1 on gunbroker, but it doesn't have the firing pin block safety. Any ideas?

Drat. That one is sold, and it didn't have the firing pin block safety. Do only the new CZ75b's have the FPB safety mechanism?

Anyone have any other sources where I might grab a CZ75b for less than $350?

Both those guns looked like B's even though they were listed as just cz75's. Mark

Do you have any other suggestions? Im going to the local range tommorrow at 9am for a few hours of refresher practice with just about everything. I can get a CZ75b pretty easily, but Im not too keep on grabbing one for $450. I could sure use some advice from you longhorns about where to pickup another great deal!

Have you checked how much an ffl is going to charge for a transfer if you buy it online? I have an ffl I use here in so cal and they charge $45 which probably is as cheap as you will find. You will also have to pay shipping alot of times but if it is from out of state you can get away with no tax as long as you don't have your dealer order it. Lastly if you don't have it already you need the handgun card which will cost you $25 after you take a short test. Then they are going to make you buy a trigger lock. But you can get around that one. Walmart sells DOJ approved cable locks for $5. You just buy one and take it and your receipt to the ffl. He will photocopy your receipt then take the lock back to walmart and get your money back. So you see your $350 gun can cost alot more pretty quickly in california. Mark

Our FFL charges $20 + fees!
I do bring him little extras though since I feel it's too reasonable- like if he needs a snap cap for our SH test or something I'll just buy it for him.
He only does it for previous transferrors now though.

PS- if you own a gun safe, fill out the safe-affidavit form, and you can avoid buying a gun lock. Everyone should have a safe anyways if you have more than a couple of guns

McA - In todays email advertisement from Turners they are selling the 75b Tactical model for $399. This model is a green/black color combo and comes with a nice folding knife and upgraded grips (soft rubber rather than hard plastic). This is what I have, and I love it!

yup, Turners in SOCAL carries pretty much the full line of CZ pistols. that's where i bought mine...a CZ75BD. great pistol!
