    just found this

I just found a 20rd. mag for my Colt 1911 in my old safe. Would this be a pre ban magazine or just illegal to use in my 1911?

if its been there since 1999 (which I'm sure it has ) then its legal. Never seen a 20rd 1911 mag before. Mind posting a pic for us to take a look?

      I've got a couple of 15 rounders. Haven't seen 20's though.
And I believe the deadline was Sept. 1994. That's when the Clinton Bill took effect.

The "Clinton Bill" is no longer law, so purchasing one in 1998 for example might have landed you in trouble at the time per federal law, but that doesn't matter today being that the law is off the books.

The (relevant) hi-cap ban started on Jan. 1, 2000.

The reason i am asking is that i was told that any mag in a pistol over 10 rd's was considered and AW. Its fun to use but not easy to holster!!!

That's BS. Possession and use of hi cap mags is not against the law.

Check out the handgun AW ID Flowchart at the top and figure out the law for yourself.

                Cheers.

Some of this type stuff was built in WW1 for pilots to use before the advent of permanent machine guns on aircraft.

My experience with 1911 mags that hold more than 10 rounds has been uniformly disappointing.

Even ten rounders have been more miss than hit.

The mag is legal if you owned it prior to 12-31-99.
The way some gunshop clerks spout off, you'd think that they invented gunpowder and the repeating rifle, and sat on the Supreme Court as well.

No it is a government colt (parts gun 1911) But then again wasn't everything made with this model in mind?
