    You can borrow my bag.
The bullets with my name on it I'm not worried about, it's the "To whom it may concern" ones I'm worried about.

      (c) As used in this section, "locked container" means a secure
container which is fully enclosed and locked by a padlock, key
lock, combination lock, or similar locking device.
Once again, the issue is 'what do you think is "secure"?'.

Reasonable people will not tempt LEO to invoke the laugh test.

Is it OK to carry your handgun in one of this?

Actually, some folks make sure the lock it in a DOJ approved container or use a DOJ lock on the gun inside a locked container. (Belt and suspenders - so to speak) Rumor abounds every now and again that if you have it locked in a rug in your vehicle and you take side trip from the range or hunting grounds to the store, then it is in a case being stored and then the CA DOJ lock applies. Somewhere I read that some counties in the greater southern section of CA will bust you for illegal storage if your inside shopping and the gun isn't inside locked with a CA DOJ lock or box.
But just like speeding - how many people actually get caught?
Seriously - know who you are dealing with and be prepared. Locked lunch box will get some attention. Locked back pack too. Locked tool box on the other hand may not. LEOs I know lock in a common tool box, not affixed to the vehicle.

Most of the cases people use don't lock, but they do have dual zippers that people would put a lock through (as does that 5.11 bag)

Wasn't presented as either - just said 'some people do this...'

DOJ approved trigger locks and locking containers have nothing at all to do with locked-container transport.

Ok well how about say you have a small handgun say a Glock 26 can you lock it in a soft case then carry it in your pocket while you drive down the seat? or run into the store (unloaded) not mag in the gun but there might be a loaded mag in the case.

Yes, this is called "LUCC" locked unloaded concealed carry. Search for it on here to find much already covered info.

Very interesting, I never thought about that. In a crisis situation you could run to the corner and try to put the mag in your gun.

If you notice what Jack Bauer is carrying, it's just a standard leather messenger bag with a fold-over cover... looks like a Bally bag I used to have. When he draws from it, he pulls the flap cover back and reaches inside. The bag is not locked or secured in any way. Usually on those types of bags, the front flap cover is just secured by 2 clips, velcro (on the cheaper bags), or by magnets. It's no way considered a "locked" compartment for a handgun. However if you have a CCW, then you don't have to worry about it.
