    David,

I hear you and it's the same as other aspects of our shooting life in Cali. However, in this forum, we're preaching to the choir. Every Calgunner I know has nothing but the utmost respect for the law. Those laws we don't agree with are the ones we're working together to take down.

I bought high caps for my nephews, brothers, friends and relatives from the late 80's - up 'til their purchase was banned. So, it looks weird when my 15 and 18 year old nephews have 226, G17, AR, AK and UZI mags, but they are legal, free and clear.

There is always a danger that exercising your rights could draw unwarranted attention to yourself. However, I don't see good Calgunners breaking any laws. We might find ways around them, but I take great pride in remaining true to the letter of the law.

Yes, I think we are in agreement. The main point of my rant is this:

Many of us had the foresight or were fortunate to plan ahead and are in legal possession of hi-cap mags or have legitimate reasons to purchase rebuild kits. But the number of rebuild kits being sold into this state is far to large to cover just the legitimate use. Unfortunately, I also see some folks actively advocating on this forum, with a "wink, wink", the purchase of rebuild kits as a way around the hi-cap magazine ban telling inquirers it is up to the justice system to prove you broke the law. Sure, nobody is counting the number of hi-cap mags in the state, but it can be pretty obvious to any DA or politician who wants to make this an issue to see and prove what is actually happening. And if/when this happens, we who have legitimate reasons to purchase rebuild kits will lose that ability. Don't like a law, work to repeal it, don't break it.

I just moved to this state about 3 years ago so I can't have hi-caps.Where were all these people when these crazy laws were passed?I sent ARNIE many emails about the ammo ban but that still got passed.Instead of finding ways to twist the laws why don't we band together to stop these laws from being passed.

And what, do you suppose, might be the purpose of Calguns and the Calguns Foundation?

The large-capacity magazine law was part of SB23 in 1999 - which also added 'features' to the law determining what is a California 'assault weapon'. Lots of people wrote to oppose that bill.

Perfectly legal IF you posessed them in CA prior to 1/1/2000; which by they way, is the important part.

So a cop or some stranger at the range which says he is the range officer can't come up to you and demand you hand them over? Hmmm I wonder what people would do if that happened... IDK if I wouldn't hand them over if a guy with a gun was demanding them... True you have a gun as well but would you be willing to die for the highcap mags?

Exactly, but why face possible jail time, and the expense of a good lawyer over using a rebuild kit illegally.

lol, look. if you were 18 years old in 2000 when the ban took effect, it is near impossible to prove you didn't own them. if your turned 18 after the ban, well you in no way could have owned them legally unless you turn l.e.o. if a range master asks for your legally owned high cap mags, give him the big middle finger. if a l.e.o asks for them ask why and have him cite the p.c for the illegal siezure of your legally owned property. i am a former l.e.o and never asked for proof of high cap mag ownership, simply because it cannot be proven. i have no problem going to court and defending myself in a case like this because unless you were not 18 when the ban took effect it can't be proven unless the mags were mfg. after 2000.

When did you have to be 18 to own a magazine? My father/brother purchased me / helped me obtain many mags when I was still in high school.

You don't have to have been 18 to own mags, you could have gotten mags for your 1yr old birthday present in anticipation of the hi-cap ban. Also, if the mags in your possession are manufactured after 2000, you can just say they are rebuild kits replacing legally owned magazines. Therefore, lets just have CGN offically endorse all you 21yr olds and new residents going out and buying all the hi-cap mags you want, and if anyone tries to prove you broke the law just give the 'ol middle finger. So just like if you need a "date" you go to Craigs List, if you need a "rebuild kit" you can come to Calguns. Heck, with about 1/4 of the WTS Accessories Forum listing rebuild kits, we're already there. Great to see LEO/ex-LEO with such respect for the law.

thats true about not being 18 and owning mags, i was relating into buying firearms with high cap mags in 2000. i didn't think outside of that, i do have a narrow mind these days. anyways it can't be proven but i would bet that the hassle would be greater if you weren't 18 at the time of the ban. good catch on your part.
