    Sig 220 jamming

So I bought a sig 220 with very few rounds down the pipe and the previous owner had it only had for a couple of months. I have had the gun for about six months and im starting to have some jamming issues. Since I had the gun I have had the short reset trigger installed and have shot roughly 500 rounds through it. I clean the gun after every range session and keep it well oiled. There is no pitting or gauges in the feed ramp or chamber. So since ammo has been so scarce I have been only able to buy remington bulk ammo from walmart and this is what I have been shooting through it. My issue is when I load a mag and press the slide release iften the round is not fully seated into the chamber. I would say its half way where you could look down and see the bullet not fully seated. So i usually rack it and try the next round which sometimes jams as well. This not only happens when the gun is first loaded but sometimes half way through the clip. What really makes me nervous is the last trip to the range is that I loaded the gun shot it and the last round would not fire and the gun would not rack back or budge forward. I had a range master come over and I couldnt see exactly what he did but he took a screwdriver and some how got the round out. The bullets brass casing that he pulled out was scratched up and looked really gouged. Im really concerned because I use this gun for work and im starting to lose faith in my Sig. What scares me the most was not being able to clear the misfeed. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

eliminate the easy stuff: ammo, mag, springs, extractor, gun.

A reputable sig armorer installed the trigger. My only problem with finding rounds is where do you find them. All i can find is wolf ammo or winchester duy ammo that costs like 25 bucks for 20 rounds

Lot of different ammo is coming available on line. Might try shopping around a bit.

As above, rule out the easiest stuff. If that doesn't cure it then it should be off to an armorer or a smith. No way should you be betting your life on something that locks up solid half way through a magazine without warning.

I sincerely hope you're not using it for your work right now. Could it be that the difficulty with the pistol is why the previous owner sold it? For future reference it may be good to test for reliability before having any work done to a pistol. That way you at least know the when the difficulty started.

I shot around 300 rounds through it before I had the trigger done and just figured everthing was good to go with it. Teach me to buy a used gun for work huh. Now I cant even send it off to sig for repairs under warranty. I have 229 that I can use so I am ok for now and I am not using it for duty.

If it wasn't malfunctioning prior to the SRT install, I'd go to the reputable sig armorer and show him what's happening. Also, look at the trigger bar and where it contacts the bottom of the slide. Are you seeing any gouges? Is it hanging-up the slide from going into battery?

Yeah I do not see anything hanging up but I am going to take your advice and take it to a sig armorer to take a look. Thanks for all of your help and advice everyone

Do you know what year your 220 is? Is it German or US made? Internal or external extractor? 220's underwent a grand coverup of problems from SIG (why I'll never own a SIG again....or until they fire Mr. Cohen). Problems included a weak takedown lever that can break, leaving the gun completely useless, and the US made internal extractored 220's had many FTF issues that were blamed on a faulty extractor design. The extractor was placed too low in the breach face and was of a design that was far too critical of extractor tension. Of course not all 220's had problems, but it was enough to raise many eyebrows. I would take your 220 to your SIG armorer and have him take a look. If that fails, call SIG and see what they'll do or contact a guy named Bruce Grey who's probably the nations foremost SIG armorer. The SRT trigger install is pretty hard to screw up.

Did you get any aftermarket grips? I know my P226 had issues when I installed a pair of Hogue Wood grips. Dunno how, but as soon as I took them off... everything was fine again (I think they might have been preventing the magazines to go in all the way). Other than that, possible magazine issues.

I've had ammo problems causing possible issues in both of my 220's. to ME... $20 to test another ammo brand for a firearm used to defend and save your life is a SMALL price to pay, just to test it out. Also, are you using 8 or 10rnd mags? my 10's seem like they're in but don't always click. they could feed and or jam based on that. If you drive em home to click then it's fine.

Scott at APEX Tactical (Randy Lee's outfit) previously worked under Bruce Gray before moving back to California. I would trust either Scott or Bruce with ANY sig related questions, issues, or work.

They're up (or down) in the San Luis Obispo area. If it were out of pocket, I would much rather call either Bruce or Scott before sending it back to the Sig factory..

If ur gun has been running, its most likely not an SRT issue. The installation is pretty fool proof and reassembling a Sig is all or nothing. It wont' really work if its not correctly installed.. Sounds like bad ammo, tight chamber, light/weak recoil spring or bad magazine..

                              in any event..good luck..
