    Glock vs, 1911 + A time machine

Do you think the U.S. Army would have adopted the 1911 if the Glock existed during the same time?

I don't know for sure, but I think the lack of a safety would have concerned the military, didn't the 1911 get sent back to the drawing board for a second safety?

Not being familiar with polymer materials, I'd think they'd see the GLOCK as just a "plastic pistol" and be wary of it's durability.

They'd also probably be more interested in the time machine.

The 1911 had the thumb safety added by the request of the cavalry. It was originally designed to be carried on an empty chamber.

Glock was not allowed to participate in the bid for the 9mm pistol as they would not release their design for other manufacturers to build from as per the ordinance contract. In retrospect, the M9 is only being produced by beretta, so it may not have been an issue. They won the Austrian contract hands down though.

In 2006, they were looking to go back to .45 before that contract got squashed. Look towards the HK45 to see where they were thinking on requirements.

Thats very difficult to say. Its like saying, would you have listed to the Jonas Bros if the Jackson 5 never existed? Maybe NOW you would, but back then, the Jonas Bros would have been a joke and 1/2. I think the military would have looked at it like it was a joke and 1/2.

I have heard so many glock comparisons but comparing the glock to the jonas brothers and the 1911 to the Jackson 5 is now by far my favorite!

Both are reliable, proven weapons... especially the loose fitting, non-mim 1911... Both can shoot, but one can also be used as a beat-down club and hammer.

Given that, I'd say the military WOULD have chosen a Glock, because they also reasoned that 9mm ball is just as good as 45 ACP ball.

i would think it would have come down to Glock's willingness to add a thumb and grip safety to his design

                              This.

The original design looked a lot better than the one that went into production.
