    * * BEST 9mm for HD & Range? * *

    So, I want to get a 9mm (my 1st handgun). It will be used for Target practice @ the Range, but will also be HD gun, if needed. I'm debating Sig 226R (kind of too much money for a 9mm, but I like it), CZ 75B, 92FS. I am not considering any "plastic" guns like Glock/XD (personal choice). What do you guys suggest??

    Thanks...

      Which ever fits your hand best. Try them all until you find "the one".

        Such as?

        I feel a little hesitant about the 1911/Single-action guns. I don't want to play with the safety in a "stress" situation...things can go wrong. I prefer decocking instead - that way I get the 1st shot as a Double action, and SA after that (kind of like Sigs)....

        .. But open to suggestions & learning..

          226.

          I know is an little bit more money but is worth it. My buddy has an CZ-75, it shoots pretty good but I would take my 226 over it any day. The Beretta is nice, has an nice recoil and is nicely weighted.

          226 is an fun range gun and great for home defense..

              XD, M&P, or Glock. Simple, reliable, effective, superb value for the money. After that, I would go with Sig or Beretta.

                    Head over to Jackson Arms (near SFO) and rent a bunch. They have a wide selection of 9mm guns you can rent to see what you like.

                    I shot a bunch of guns before deciding to just get the Sig.

                        If you don't like plastic, take a good look at the CZ P-01. My friend just bought one and they are sweet. Too bad the grip doesn't fit my hand otherwise it'd be my choice. Instead I'm having my dealer order me a Sig P2022

                            Always a great question, but it's really up to you.

                            I've owned/own SIG P226/CZ 75/Beretta 92FS. My favorite is the SIG for the best ergonomics and feel in the hand, a close second the CZ 75 for it's heft and low recoil. The Beretta (Italian made to boot) I never had any luck with, it was a jam-o-matic no matter who shot it and what ammo we used. It also felt fat in my small-medium hands. Other's have been reliable. On a budget, the CZ 75 is the best deal.

                            I have several plastic guns as well. They make good throw-aways in a HD situation. (i.e. it will be confiscated by the police and you may not get it back for a long long time or may never get it back). But yea, I've moved away from the plastic too and prefer metal.

                              Absolute best information in this thread. Yes, make sure it fitis your hand well, BUT you must test fire the pistol first to really get a feel for the weapon.
                              Remember, the handgun should feel like an "extention of your hand".

                              My Glocks fit my hand pretty well, but my Sig P226 feels custom made.
